The Journey of the Restored Masterpiece :
When a customer brought in a precious 200-year-old painting in a very bad condition, its delicate wooden panel broken fully into half, it seemed almost impossible to revive its original splendour.
The artwork—a captivating Tanjore-style depiction of Lord Krishna playing his flute beneath a lush tree, flanked by divine attendants and cows—carried centuries of devotion, memory, and heritage. But time and damage had left a stark fracture running right down the center of the deity.
At Chaya Gallery, our master conservators took on the challenge. With painstaking precision, patience, and deep respect for traditional art conservation, we aligned the fractured pieces, stabilized the antique panel, and carefully restored the elements as requested by the customer. They specifically asked to leave the background colour as is to maintain the antiquity. We also got a new frame to hold the heavy piece together.
This carefully restored 200-year-old treasure is preparing to head across the globe to its new home in the United States.
