From the SUNIRA Archives | Dhun Pre-Festive 2025

A few moments from behind the scenes of Dhun — a visual story that brought together two traditions of Kutch: Ajrakh block printing and the fading music of its folk instruments.

A glimpse into the making of the campaign, alongside musicians from Kutch whose instruments, music and traditions came together to bring Dhun to life.

From the SUNIRA Archives | Dhun Pre-Festive 2025

As we step into a new season — one that brings with it the first hints of the festivities ahead — and before we unveil our annual Pre-Festive collection for 2026, we look back at Dhun, Pre-Festive 2025.
Last year, our pre-festive and festive season became an exploration of the fading folk music traditions of Kutch — the instruments, sounds and musicians that have long been part of the region’s cultural landscape.
That journey began with Dhun, a visual campaign that brought together two traditions deeply rooted in Kutch: Ajrakh and its folk music. The rhythm of block and dye met the sounds of the Jodiya Pava, Morchang and Santar, as we spent time with musicians from the region and traced a story of craft and sound.
A look back at where last year’s festive journey began, as we prepare to tell a new story for 2026.

Today, on National Handloom Day, we take you to Kariyapalli Village in Karnataka—home to the remarkable community of Khadi silk weavers that SUNIRA is proud to work with.

Every visit is a reminder that behind every handwoven textile lies an entire ecosystem of knowledge, patience, and human skill. Here, the journey of silk unfolds slowly. From nurturing silkworms to hand-spinning the yarn. From preparing every thread to weaving it patiently on the loom. Every stage is carried out by skilled hands, guided by techniques and traditions that have been passed down through generations.

These artisans are not simply weaving fabric—they are preserving one of India’s richest textile legacies. Their work embodies a way of making that values time over speed, craftsmanship over convenience, and heritage over mass production. At SUNIRA, we are deeply grateful to work alongside communities like these, building long-term relationships that honour their craft while bringing these extraordinary textiles into contemporary wardrobes around the world.
