Kashmir Galore’s carpets are a canvas for the long, enduring, and rich legacy of the culture of Kashmir, its craft traditions, its art and most importantly, the artisans who persevere to keep it alive against all odds. Started as 'Posh Carpets' in early 1960's by Late Haji Abdul Rehman Posh, a former goldsmith, who met with an accident which paralyzed his left hand, leaving him to search for a different source of earning a livelihood. He embraced this as an opportunity to venture into carpet weaving, an art he had long admired but couldn’t adopt due to family and financial restrictions. It took all his wife’s gold for him to finally set up a loom in Srinagar and hire two weavers and buy silk for his new business, thus laying the foundation for the generational legacy that runs in the family. In 2014, Posh Carpets was renamed Kashmir Galore, now helmed by its third generation, Saqib Posh, whose story reflects that of his grandfather as an accident also steered his path from fashion styling to his family business. "Kashmir Galore is a third generation family business and we are grateful to have one of the finest weavers and artisans help us realize this dream as it is an integral part of our heritage and my grandfather's legacy"

This sunburst medallion took months on the loom. every ray, every petal, hand-knotted silk on silk.

We’ve moved back to the atelier we started in. It wasn’t part of the plan, but honestly, it feels right. Some of the best work happens in the spaces that remember you.

This piece is a reminder of why we do this — the patience, the hands, the years it takes to make something like this.

Know what you’re buying

The worst business decision I made in ten years was opening a retail store.

So we opened a store, betting people walking by would find us. But handmade carpets and pashmina aren’t mass products, they’re for people who actually love this craft, and they don’t discover you by passing a shop window. They find you online, they research, they trust you first.

We were paying overheads for foot traffic our product was never built to depend on. That was the miscalculation, not the product, the strategy.

So we closed the store, came back to the studio, and went all in on being found online instead of walked past.
Turns out we didn’t need a street in Chattarpur. We needed the internet.
