Konyak Panels - hand carved wooden panels from the Naga communities of North-East India.

Traditionally placed at the entrances and exits of villages, these wooden panels were created as symbols of protection, identity and strength. Carved with human figures, animals, skulls, serpents and shields, each motif carried cultural meaning - representing valour, security, community and ritual memory. Crafted from aged local wood, these panels are rare architectural fragments that speak of a time when art, belief and everyday life were deeply connected.

Poised in tribhanga, the figure of Parvati stands gracefully in the three-bend posture, the figure is defined by smooth, flowing lines, a slender form, gently rounded hips, and attenuated limbs.

Crowned with a tiered karanda mukuta and set on a lotus pedestal, the sculpture follows the established language of South Indian bronzes. The right hand is held in kataka mudra, likely once supporting a lotus, while the left lowers in a relaxed gesture.

Carved in wood, covered with fabric, and painted with natural vegetable pigments, this hollow torso figure comes from the Ramalila tradition of Bisipada, Odisha.

Worn by actors portraying Ravana, Kumbhakarna, or Meghnad, it reflects the bold theatrical language of village performance, expressive features, stylised jewellery, and vivid colour. A powerful example of ritual, craft, and storytelling in sculptural form.
