The Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich is the book on which the highly successful film, directed by David Fincher, the Social Network is based on.
Largely based on Eduardo Saverin’s perspective, the book is centers on the founding of Facebook and while the veracity of the events in the book have often been dismissed as “lies”, it is a, nonetheless, an illuminating read on how power and ambition can often destroy friendships. The book begins a few weeks preceding the launch of “thefacebook.com” with best friends, Eduardo Saverin and Mark Zuckerberg portrayed as outcasts with little or no social standing at Harvard and ends on the lawsuit filed by Saverin against Zuckerberg for throwing him out of the company which they together, founded.
The first half of the book is set at Harvard University and campus life while the second half is focuses more on business in the Silicon Valley. The friendship between Saverin and Zuckerberg sours on the latter’s proximity to Sean Parker (founder and creator of Napster) who becomes a mentor-like figure to Zuckerberg which the former clearly detests and on the different methods of operation between Saverin and Zuckerberg.
A tale of genius, power and ambition, The Accidental Billionaires is a great read on the founding of one of the world's most powerful companies by a bunch of college kids. Order today !!
