Nino Rota's score was actually disqualified from the 1972 Oscars for Best Original Score because he had repurposed a small portion of the melody from an earlier 1958 film (Fortunella). However, the music was so undeniably "The Peak" of cinematic history that Rota was given a "redemption" Oscar just two years later for The Godfather Part II.

The realization that while Michael Corleone reached the peak of the underworld, the view from the top was the loneliest place on Earth.

A Final Farewell to the Queen of Melody (1933 – 2026)
Description:
"The voice that taught us how to love, dance, and dream has fallen silent. Today, we mourn the passing of the legendary Asha Bhosle ji, who left us at the age of 92.
From her soulful ghazals to her high-energy cabaret numbers, Asha Tai’s versatility was unmatched. With over 12,000 songs across 20 languages, she wasn't just a singer; she was the heartbeat of Indian music. This video is a humble tribute to her immortal legacy—a journey through the melodies that will continue to echo in our hearts forever.
Rest in peace, Asha ji. Your voice is eternal."

In this legendary rendition, Maestro Kazuhito Yamash*ta joins forces with jazz-fusion pioneer Larry Coryell for a high-wire rendition of the "Winter" concerto from Vivaldi's The Four Seasons.

Originally composed for the violin in 1725, Yamash*ta's adaptation for the classical guitar is nothing short of insane. His articulation is super clean, especially as he ventures into the dusty territory past the 12th fret-an area notoriously difficult to navigate on a traditional guitar without a cutaway. And he tunes his guitar mid way too...

Kazuhito Yamash*ta (1961-2026) is one of my favorite guitarists. He shocked the world in the early 1980s with his solo transcriptions of massive symphonic works like Pictures at an Exhibition and Dvořák's New World Symphony. I was always a big fan of his Liszt transcriptions as well: he surpassed technical demands and produced such a thick sound I don't know if we'll ever witness that ever again. RIP Maestro, your legacy shall live at least through this account!

Kazuhito Yamash*ta (1961-2026)

In 1984 in Toronto, Kazuhito Yamash*ta stepped onto the stage with only a classical guitar - and somehow summoned the sound of an entire orchestra.

Performing his astonishing transcription of Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky, Yamash*ta pushed the instrument far beyond its traditional limits. With explosive dynamics, lightning-fast passages, and fearless physicality, he transformed six strings into a thunderous symphonic landscape. From the haunting promenades to the monumental power of "The Great Gate of Kiev," every note felt larger than life.

Yamash*ta was never interested in following the rulebook of classical guitar. Instead, he rewrote it. His groundbreaking 1981 recording of this work stunned the classical world and earned the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon Award, proving that imagination and technique together can redefine what an instrument is capable of. More than just a virtuoso, Yamash*ta was a musical visionary - someone who believed that to capturethe true spirit of music, a performer must be completely free from physical and technical constraints.

Rest in peace to a master who made a single guitar sound like the universe.
