Junkbuddy Recycling Foundation Junkbuddy Recycling Foundation is a Nonprofit organization where the less priviledged are trained an Reusing the scrap by transforming it into an art.

Anyone who is even a bit of concerned about the environment will be familiar with the multiple R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and more) and as an individual with limited time and resources we end up focusing on reducing the consumption of one time use articles. Even after that effort there is tonnes of scrap which is generated and has to be discarded. On the other hand, recycling various scrap/waste

starts with a challenge of collection and segregation. Further after the waste/scrap is to be sorted, it takes huge amount of time, energy and manpower to recycle any waste, be it plastics or wood or metal. Eventually, the cost of recycling sometimes exceeds the cost of fresh stock thereby the recycled products suffer resistance in the market. Junkbuddy Recycling Foundation (JRF) analyzed this problem and decided to focus on the less used option of managing scrap i.e. “Reuse”. There is a famous saying “One man’s trash is another’s treasure.” Team Junkbuddy made this quotation as a working philosophy and started creating home décor products from scrap materials like glass, paper, plastic, metal, wood, newspaper, and other materials. The idea behind creating every product is not only to use scrap as raw material only but to give that product a life, if any product misses the “WOW” factor then the purpose behind creating is defeated. Junkbuddy did not stop here. Instead of restricting this art to self, Junkbuddy decided to train others with these skills. Why not to contribute to the underprivileged segment of our society, why not help them in living a dignified life. So our team started conducting training sessions for people living in slums to make them artisans. Along with training them, Junkbuddy provides raw material and help them in selling their products. The entire profit generated is used in making the lives of these artisans gracious. The dream of giving an earning to a person so that it can be used in the livelihood, successfully running a family, giving children education, food and shelter is the main aim for anyone. Men and Women are of equal competence and it is seen that the entire laborious work is being executed by them. But, some out of them are immensely creative, why not give them platform to showcase their skills and become artisans. We are just extending them path to become a better individual and display their talent to the world. So, let’s join hands together and help the underprivileged.

Sarita, a native of Karhal village in UP was a happy soul, full of positivity and living a content life. She had a supporting husband, a joyful kid, and a peaceful family. Little did she know what life had in store for her. Unfortunately, their second child Yug was born with a rare syndrome where his mind and body could not develop as a normal child. She had to leave her job to take care of her child. Sarita & her husband were unable to get their son treated well because of their poor financial condition. They went to every possible hospital and institution to get their child treated, but all in vain.
Their life took a turn when Sarita's relative introduced her to Junkbuddy Recycling Foundation in Delhi, where she could take care of Yug and earn by stitching. Her husband also got a job, so they shifted to Delhi.
Sarita gelled with the philosophy of Junkbuddy. She began to see scrap as a treasure. It was she who came up with an idea of cloth packaging of the ancient games from scrap/discarded clothes. She added the glitter of her experience to the products. One of Junkbuddy's consumers loved her idea & motivated her creativity by donating a sewing machine to her, to let her experiment with more new sewing ideas, which helped her earn some extra money helping her financial life to a better condition.
Donors and supporters like you are getting Sarita’s life back on track. Now she can work at her home along with taking care of her children. Her elder son is continuing with his school and Yug has also found a doctor to whom he is responding. He has started speaking small words. But there is a long way to go.

Growing Coriander without soil in a scrap PET bottle.

Hydroponics is becoming a hot trend now. Growing plants without soil prove to be a boon to people living in flats as plants can be grown in less space in a tidy manner.
Those who want to learn or try hydroponics can start with this small experiment of growing coriander in PET bottle.
Materials required:
1. Coriander seeds
2. PET bottle 1.5 – 2L
3. Granular gravel (200-250gms)
4. Sand (1 TBSP)
5. 2 TBSP compost/Fertilizer
Process:
1. Soak coriander seeds in a bowl of water for 2 days. Seeds that are floating after 2 days must be discarded. (Fig. A)
2. Cut PET bottle 1/3rd from the top. Make tiny holes (approx. 20) as shown in Fig. B.
3. The two parts should be kept as shown in Fig. C.
4. Wash the granular gravel thoroughly and fill the upper part of the bottle with it. (Ref. Fig. E).
5. Spread the soaked seeds on the gravel and cover them by sprinkling sand. This sand will protect the seeds from the sun and will keep them moist.
6. Fill the lower part of the bottle with tap water and keep the upper part on it. The upper part of the bottle should be dipped in the water for up to 1 inch.
7. After 5-7 days you will see roots coming out of the holes.
8. Replace the water and add compost/fertilizer to it.
9. After 7-10 days your coriander will be ready to harvest.
