Good Morning! Diwali is in the air and I am looking forward to celebrating with family and friends as always; and, I bet you are too.
Enjoying firecrackers on Diwali was something I always used to look forward to; I still remember waking up my dad at 2am to check if I could go out to start with my rockets & atom bombs … and, forget about my allergy and asthma attacks ...
But, I am saying “NO” to firecrackers this Diwali, and going forward. Why?
1. Firecrackers pollute, pollute and pollute
Their manufacturing pollute the environment; transporting them is hazardous and bursting firecrackers cause air pollution, noise pollution and create loads of garbage and contaminate the soil.
2. Firecracker factories are inhuman and unsafe
Historically, factories that produce firecrackers have promoted child labor. In addition the safety records of many such manufacturing units have been poor.
3. Bursting crackers create safety issues
Walking or biking around Diwali time on the roads is a huge safety hazard for everyone. Also, the noise from the crackers traumatises young children, the elderly and even our pet animals.
And, it has just been a recent tradition. Did you know that Diwali celebrations did not involve any fireworks prior to 1942?
Diwali is a beautiful occasion we celebrate with friends and family. It is an occasion we share and care. Let us celebrate this Diwali in its true spirit and spread love and happiness around.
Happy Diwali to you and your family from all of us at GoodSeeds!
