Here's your weekly round up of eco news from round the globe:

1. In order to tackle air pollution and its impact on human health WHO has changed its guidelines for air quality since 2005. The changes are meant to encourage member countries to slash fossil fuel emissions and move towards a carbon neutral society.

2. Together with the World Economic Forum’s 1t.org initiative, companies from various sectors have taken a pledge supporting 1 trillion trees by global movement. 20 companies have already committed to conserve, restore and grow more than 2.5 billion trees in over 40 countries.

3. According to a recent report by IISc, the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) can create an additional carbon sink equal to 2.5-3 billion tonnes of CO2 by 2030. Through plantations and soil quality improvement works the scheme may have helped capture 102 million tonnes of carbon from 2017-18.

4. Nearly 20% of the world's wastewater is produced by the fashion industry and it's responsible for around 10% of global emissions. Fashion industry is on the trajectory to contribute to 25% of global CO2 emissions by 2050. “We have to reduce production and consumption of fashion by between 75% and 95%. We're not talking about snipping a bit off.” according to one of the leading experts. It is important to shift the mindset of both producers and consumers.

5. With rising demands of the high energy intensive process of air conditioning in hot climate countries an alternative possible may be energy-storing capabilities of ice. The energy-storing capabilities of ice could provide a more efficient, climate-friendly approach to cooling with the help of thermal energy storage. Nostromo’s ‘Icebrick’ technology, which promises to cut the environmental and financial cost of air conditioning for large commercial buildings, has exactly this idea in mind.

6. The US announced a significant increase in its international climate finance to $11.4 billions a year. China also said it would end all financing of coal fired power plants abroad and redirect its support to green and low carbon energy.

20/09/2021

Here's your weekly round up of eco news from round the globe:

1. India can achieve net zero for carbon emissions by 2065-2070 with the country's greenhouse gases peaking by 2035 and country capping coal usage in the next 10 years. When the amount of greenhouse gases emitted equals the amount of the harmful gases removed from the atmosphere by carbon absorption or sequestration or separation, Net zero is achieved. To achieve the net zero target, India needs short-term decarbonization targets, such as a planned phasing out of coal-based power generation as India has already adopted expanding renewable energy capacity to 450 GW by 2030.

2. Fossil fuel CO2 emissions have leveled back to pre-pandemic levels and are even higher 2021, according to a report by multiple agencies. Emissions peaked at 36.64 GtCO2 in 2019, followed by a significant drop of 1.98 GtCO2 (5.6%) in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The report also reiterated that rise in global sea levels has been accelerated putting coastal and low lying cities at massive risk.

3. Raw materials required for green technologies such as wind turbines, solar panels, electric vehicles, battery storage, and other electronic equipment increases the mining process as all these technologies use metals such as copper, lithium and vanadium. It is imperative to also transition to green technology for the mining and cement industry which are at the heart of the green technology revolution.

4. At least four groves of gigantic ancient sequoias in national parks and forests have burned by California wildfires. Firefighters have placed special aluminum wrapping around the base of the General Sherman Tree, the world's largest by volume at 52,508 cubic feet (1,487 cubic meters), as well as some other sequoias and buildings. The material can withstand intense heat for short periods and has been used in national parks and forests for several years throughout the West to protect sensitive structures from flames.

Here's your weekly roundup of eco-news from round the globe:

1. If no action is taken on mitigating climate change India could be set to lose $35 trillion by 2070, that is 12.7% GDP. Though in a new study by Deloitte Economics Institute, India could position itself by tapping its potential to export decarbonatization to the world, adding $11 trillion to economic value. India could use the transition to a low-emission footing to restructure its economy towards growth in advanced industrial sectors, leveraging lower-cost clean energy export markets, as the region experiences a rapid increase in energy demand over the coming years.

2. Farmers burn their fields to make way for new crops, the resulting practice and smog produces highly toxic black carbon. This back carbon is highly damaging to humans and the planet as it causes millions premature death and has 500 to 1500 times impact on global warming compared to CO2. This also has a negative effect on soil quality as it decreases by 30% and farmers have to invest more into fertilizers and irrigation systems. UN-related initiatives to ignite a commitment among farmers to end field burning, using a combination of education, technology and assistance.

3. Only 9% plastic waste is recycled, this can be improved to 100% recycling by improved waste management, optimized recycling system and sustainable product design. One of the ways is to shift the mindset of plastic producers and consumers from I don’t care about the waste to waste to product or trash to treasure mindset, this can also lead to financial and sustainability benefits.

4. Planting trees is an important solution to combat climate change and move towards a sustainable society. There are currently almost 8 billion people on Earth. If every single person planted a tree each year for the next 20 years, that would mean roughly 160 billion new trees. It is also essential to switch to low-carbon emitting renewable resources to reduce greenhouse emissions.

Benefits of Using a Wooden Comb:

1. It presses against your scalp and triggers the acupuncture points and also gives a massage to your scalp. All this proves to be good for the overall blood circulation to your scalp and proves to be of great benefit for your hair.

2. Whenever you use a wooden comb instead of a plastic comb, the natural oils present in your scalp get equally distributed across your tresses.

3. It improves the blood flow to your scalp, which in return helps the hair follicles get optimum nutrients. It also helps in eliminating or removing impurities by regulating the production of sebum.

4. when you use a wooden comb, the oil gets evenly distributed not only across your scalp but also across the length of your hair. This leaves your hair less greasy or oily in comparison to what may occur after using a plastic or PVC comb.

5. It slides smoothly through the hair, leading to less breakage and damage. Also, it has wider bristles, which move easily through the hair. That reduces friction and helps in detangling the hair in a better way.

6. Dandruff can be a very annoying scalp problem and a never-ending battle with the white scaly flakes. However, using wooden combs can help you prevent this issue because it is not only gentler and softer on your hair and scalp, but also prevents any harm to the scalp that may be caused due to friction, cuts or nicks.

7. Unlike metal or plastic combs that attract dirt or foreign because of the heavy charge in them, wooden combs may easily help in clearing any such substances from your hair and scalp.

8. Plastic or metal combs may sometimes irritate or cause an allergic reaction on the skin. If you have a sensitive scalp, then using a wooden comb may be a wise thing to do. This is because these combs are made with natural components and some of these even come with a protective coating.

9. wooden combs prevent your tresses from getting static and thus prove to be better for your hair.

10. When you use a wooden comb regularly, your scalp will be nourished with proper blood circulation and optimum blood circulation. Together, all this will lend a healthy bounce to your hair.
