Heartiest congratulations to Advocate Fairoz khan (President, SJAC) on the opening of the Technical Bid for Lot-I of the Sawalkot Hydroelectric Project! A major step forward for the development and bright future of Ramban. Your struggle inspires us all!

STATEMENT BY ADVOCATE FAIROZ KHAN
President, Sawalkakote Joint Action Committee (SJAC), Ramban

Date: 09 September 2026

---

Today, the technical bids for the Sawalkot Hydroelectric Project (Lot-I) have been opened, and five major infrastructure companies – Adani Infra India Ltd, Hindustan Construction Co. Ltd, Larsen & Toubro Ltd, PATEL ENGINEERING LTD, and RITHWIK PROJECTS PVT. LTD. – have been shortlisted.

I congratulate every young man and woman of Ramban, every member of the SJAC, and every resident who has stood with us in this long struggle. Your patience, courage, and unity have brought us this far. But this is not the end – it is only the beginning.

We will continue fighting.

Our fight is not against development, but for justice. We have always supported nation-building, but we cannot accept that the people of Ramban bear the heaviest burden – nearly 88% of the submergence area lies in our district – while our rights remain unclear.

Today, I reiterate our clear and non‑negotiable demands:

1. Timely ex*****on – The tender process must move without further delay, and the government must announce a firm project timeline.
2. Fair compensation – Every affected landowner must be paid strictly under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.
3. First preference for local youth – All project-related employment, contracts, and services must give priority to the youth of Ramban.
4. Comprehensive rehabilitation – A full resettlement and rehabilitation package for all displaced families, with wage security and livelihood protection.
5. Clarity on road connectivity and diversion plans – No more confusion; we demand official, transparent communication.
6. Review of unused acquired land – Land taken years ago but lying idle must be returned or compensated afresh.
7. Environmental and social safeguards – The project must not destroy our ecology or our communities.

I assure the people of Ramban that the SJAC will not rest until every one of these demands is met. We are ready for dialogue, but we will not accept empty promises. The government and the successful bidder must understand that Ramban is not a sacrifice zone – it is a stakeholder, and its people deserve their rightful share.

We thank all our supporters and the media for amplifying our voice. We will continue to raise our concerns peacefully, legally, and with unwavering determination.

Jai Hind.

Led by Advocate Fairoz Khan, Ravi Kumar’s Family and Residents of Tanger Meet District Administration Ramban

Today, following the tragic drowning of young Ravi Kumar in the River Chenab, his family members and members of Panchayat Tanger, led by Advocate Fairoz Khan, met the District Administration, Ramban, as part of a delegation.

The delegation requested the administration to take every possible step to strengthen the search operation, including regulating or stopping the dam water flow, wherever technically and legally possible, to facilitate the recovery operation.

It was also requested that Hamza Sheikh from Doda be brought tomorrow with proper and complete equipment to assist in the search. The delegation further appealed for the deployment and coordination of all available QRTs and rescue teams from Ramban, Banihal, Khari and Ramsoo.

We make a heartfelt appeal to the youth and people of Ramban to come forward and volunteer in the search operation so that Ravi Kumar’s body can be recovered and his grieving family can be given closure.

We thank the District Administration, Ramban, and every individual who has stood with the family and contributed to the ongoing search and rescue efforts.
