PSL 6 Final Multan Sultans VS Peshawar Zalmi

PSL restarted on 9th June after it got suspended due to Covid 19 in March this year. After 30 league matches Islamabad United top the table and Multan Sultans finished at second position. Qalandars and Gladiators were not able to make to the playoffs. Islamabad United met Multan Sultans in qualifier and Multan Sultans won by 31 runs to book a slot in the finals of PSL 6.
Peshawar Zulmi who finished third in the table locked horns with Karachi Kings finished fourth in the table in first eliminator. Peshawar Zulmi won the match by 5 wickets. Islamabad United after finishing first got another chance to reach the final as they met Zulmi in second eliminator yesterday. After their batting collapse at the start were able to score 174 in 20 overs with the loss of 9 wickets. A ruthless bowling performance from Zalmi was followed up by a clinical chase, spearheaded by the irrepressible Hazratullah Zazai and debutant Jonathan Wells. Their 126-run partnership led to an eight-wicket rout of Shadab Khan's side, with the chase of 176 was achieved with more than three overs to spare. Zalmi go through to face Multan Sultans in Thursday's final.

Dhawan named captain for Sri Lanka tour

Shikhar Dhawan has been named captain for India’s tour of Sri Lanka, starting July 13, where they play three ODIs and three T20Is. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been named Dhawan's deputy. With several white-ball regulars away with Test squad in England at the same time, the BCCI has rewarded several domestic performers with an India call-up.

Also back in the national side mix is Prithvi Shaw, who top-scored for Mumbai with a whopping 827 run-tally to lead his team to a Vijay Hazare Trophy triumph earlier this year. The fresh group of players that got games in the home series against England (ODIs and T20Is) like Rahul Chahar, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav - have all retained their place in the squad. Varun Chakravarthy, Navdeep Saini and Deepak Chahar, who were part of the T20I squad in that series but didn't get a game, have also held onto their places in the team.

Rashid's all-round brilliance helps Lahore clinch last-ball thriller

Islamabad United had tottered their way to 143 for 9 after taking time to come to terms with the nature of the pitch, with Rashid playing a key role even with the ball. James Faulkner struck thrice in the powerplay, with his clever use of variations to leave Islamabad unsettled after being put in to bat. The left-arm pacer cleaned up Colin Munro before Rohail Nazir chipped to the fielder a slower delivery that stopped a bit after pitching, and followed it with the dismissal of Shadab Khan, who was caught behind. Faheem Ashraf adjusted his game well to the conditions but he was under the pump to provide l***y hits towards the end of the innings. His 24-ball 27, aided by cameos from Hasan Ali and Mohammad Wasim jr proved handy to take the team to a competitive score, but not enough to help them clinch their fourth victory of the season.
Lahore's skipper Sohail Akhtar had set the pace of the chase expertly applying himself to the challenging surface at the Shaikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi with a 30-ball 40, on Wednesday. However, once the third wicket stand of 38 between Akhtar and Mohammad Hafeez came to an end, with the former getting trapped leg before to Fawad's googly, Islamabad pulled their way back into the contest. Hafeez fell soon after to Hasan Ali and Ben Dunk struggled to pace the chase in the death overs.Singapore's Tim David stroked a boundary and a six to keep Lahore's chase alive but it was Rashid's three successive boundaries in the last over that flipped the contest in their favour. Needing one off the last delivery, David top-edged a pull to help his side over the line. Shadab Khan's decision to bowl Hussain Talat in the last over to defend 16 runs, despite having a spare over for himself to bowl, backfired as Lahore Qalandars marked the resumption of the 2021 Pakistan Super League with a last ball winner over Islamabad United. Rashid Khan took the two-paced surface, which had troubled all the batters and dictated the pace and strategies of the contest till then, out of the equation and slammed three boundaries off the first three balls of the last over to bring the equation down to 4 off 3 balls, before paving the way for his team's 5-wicket victory - strengthening their team's position at the top of the table.

Pakistan name uncapped Azam Khan for England and West Indies T20Is
Pakistan have recalled pace bowlers - Mohammad Abbas and Naseem Shah - for the Test series against the West Indies. Meanwhile, Azam Khan, uncapped hard-hitting batsman from Quetta Gladiators, has been picked in the T20I set-up that will play against England and the West Indies. The T20I squad also includes veteran all-rounder Imad Wasim.
"We have remained consistent in our selection and kept the same core of cricketers who have been in the set-up for a while. This is an extremely important and critical tour for Pakistan as we will be playing the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League ODIs against England as well as the T20Is against England and the West Indies as part of our preparations for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. The Jamaica Test will count towards the ICC World Test Championship," Muhammad Wasim, chief selector, said.
"As such, keeping in view the above and in consultation with captain Babar Azam and head coach Misbah-ul-Haq, we have tried our best to maintain the winning combinations but at the same time recalled four experienced players and rewarded uncapped Azam Khan for his domestic performance, while also giving him the required confidence for the future challenges," he added.

Hamstring injury forces Sean Abbott to cut short County stint

A hamstring injury has forced Sean Abbott to end his County Championship stint with Surrey. The pacer picked up the injury against Gloucestershire and did not take the field on the final day.
Abbott had also signed up for the T20 Blast but is now aiming to be fit before the home domestic season in Australia. "Sean's injury is incredibly unfortunate as he made a great impression during his first game and had already become a popular member of the dressing room," Alec Stewart, Surrey's director of cricket, said.
Abbott, who was to stay in the United Kingdom till July 16, will undergo two-week quarantine in Australia. Surrey now have only one overseas player in their ranks in Hashim Amla, who has been in good form with a half-century, a century and a double century in the tournament so far.

Nortje, Ismail bag top honours at CSA Awards

Anrich Nortje and Shabnim Ismail were the big winners at Monday's (May 31) virtual CSA 2020-21 awards ceremony.
It was a special night for Nortje, who swept away as many as four awards including the "Men's Cricketer of the Year". The pacer became the 12th cricketer to win the prestigious award and etched his name in the history books for winning the "International Newcomer of the Year" and "Men's Cricketer of the Year" in consecutive years.
In 10 Test matches this season, he took 39 wickets at a strike rate of 48.50 with three fifers. To cap it off, he is also the joint-winner with Aiden Markram for the "SA Men's Players' Player of the Year" following a tied result and was declared as "SA Fans' Player of the Year" which was judged based on online polls.
Rassie Van der Dussen pocketed the "One-Day International Cricketer of the Year" award while Tabriaz Shamsi, the number 1 ranked T20I bowler, and George Linde won the "T20 Cricketer of the year" and "Men's International Newcomer of the year" awards respectively. Kusal Mendis's dismissal in the second Test against Sri Lanka in Johannesburg earned Wian Mulder "The CSA Delivery of the year".
In the Women's section, Shabmin Ismail was the cynosure of all eyes as she was named the "Women's Cricketer of the year". This is the second such instance for her after winning it previously in 2015. The 32-year-old, who is the only South African bowler to have taken more than 100 scalps in Women's T20Is, is third in the list after Marizanne Kapp (2013/14) and Dane van Niekerk (2016/18/19) to have won it more than once. "Momentum One-Day International Cricketer of the Year" and "The KFC Streetwise" award went to Lizelle Lee for blasting an unbeaten century in the third ODI against India in Lucknow earlier this year.

Shakib unlikely to get NOC for CPL

The Bangladesh Cricket Board hinted that ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is unlikely to get a no-objection certificate for the upcoming Caribbean Premier League. Shakib returned to Jamaica Tallawahs, a franchise he represented in 2016 and 2017 where he won the title in his first stint, for the forthcoming edition of CPL.
However, Bangladesh is expected to have a busy schedule at that point considering they are expected to host Australia with England and New Zealand scheduled to follow.
Shakib on Saturday admitted about his lack of form during the recently-concluded ODI series against Sri Lanka but vowed not to replicate the same mistakes going ahead. Shakib looked a pale shadow of his former self with the bat at his favourite number three position registering scores of 15, 0 and 4.
"Of course, my expectations weren't fulfilled during the series. But I have to ensure that these things won't happen next and it's very important," Shakib told reporters at a city hotel during a jersey launching ceremony of Mohammedan Sporting Club for the upcoming Dhaka Premier League. Shakib recently decided to skip the Pakistan Super League in order to play the DPL.

Universe Boss to make CPL return with St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots

After sitting out of CPL 2020 citing personal reasons, Chris Gayle will make a comeback in this year's edition, having re-joined one of his old teams - St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots. The franchise made the announcement on their official Instagram channel.
This is not the first time Gayle has decided to go back to a team that he previously represented. The T20 maestro played four seasons for his home franchise Jamaica Tallawahs, winning two titles with them before jumping ship to St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots. He made it to the final in the 2017 with them before returning to Tallawahs ahead of the 2019 season. The reunion was fruitful at the start - where he scored a century against the Patriots - but his form dwindled. That was mirrored in Tallawahs' last-spot finish.
Before the 2020 season, Gayle made an exit from Tallawahs and publicly blamed head coach Ramnaresh Sarwan for it. Gayle's acquisition comes as a much-needed shot in the arm for the Patriots, who managed just one win in 10 games to finish last in the 2020 edition. Incidentally, their best performance - a CPL final appearance - came when Gayle was part of their roster in 2017.
Gayle will head into the 2021 season second on the list of all-time highest run-getters in the tournament, with Lendl Simmons - who made 356 runs in Trinbago Knight Riders' title winning campaign last year - ahead of the veteran by less than a hundred runs.

BCCI likely to resume IPL 2021 in September-October in UAE

BCCI is prepping to conduct the remainder of IPL 2021 in September-October in the UAE. The announcement could be made official after their Special General Meeting (SGM) on May 29.
The 14th edition, which had been postponed owing to COVID-19, is expected to restart around September 16-20 and finish on October 9-10. The timeline pits the IPL against the upcoming T20 World Cup which begins October 18, with both tournaments competing for time and space. But the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), the host organizer of the ICC tournament, has given assurances to the BCCI and agreed to make flexible provisions for the IPL scheduling.
Availability of foreign players is another concern for the BCCI and the eight franchises. The West Indies players are expected to come (the CPL gets over on September 19) and so are the South Africans, but it gets sticky when you look at factors other than the cricket calendar. A Steve Smith, for instance, may not be too excited to turn up for a fee or INR 1 crore (he was bought for INR 2.2 crore by Delhi) while a Pat Cummins (bought INR 15.50 crore by KKR) or a Glenn Maxwell (bought INR 14.25 crore by RCB) may make themselves available because they could lose INR 7-8 crores each if they don't play the second half of the league.
While the overseas player situation will be clearer in the months to come, BCCI's top priority will remain staging the remainder of the league, failing which will mean huge financial losses.

Australia to play five T20Is on their tour of Bangladesh

Australia will play two additional T20Is on their tour of Bangladesh later this year, the Bangladesh Cricket Board said on Tuesday (May 25).
According to the original schedule, New Zealand were initially scheduled to tour Bangladesh for a three-match T20I series and were to be followed by Australia. However, in a change of itinerary, the Australians are set to arrive first, upon the conclusion of their tour of West Indies, in early August, with New Zealand to come next.
"As you may have known, Australia have agreed to increase their T20I series from three to five matches," BCB cricket operation chairman Akram Khan told reporters. "It will be held over eight or nine days. We are trying to be well prepared for the World Cup T20,'' he said.
New Zealand will also play five T20Is against the hosts at the end of the aforementioned series. Bangladesh is also scheduled to host England for three ODIs and as many T20s in the runup to the T20 World Cup, however details of that tour remain to be sketched out.
Akram added that the board wasn't looking to fill the now-empty June window with an international series following the official announcement of the Asia Cup. The board instead is looking to host the Dhaka Premier League from May 31.
"We have a pretty packed scheduled. We will have club cricket after this (Sri Lanka) series. We will go to Zimbabwe, and afterwards we have Australia and New Zealand coming up,'' said Akram.
''We also have to keep the cricketers' bio-bubble and quarantine in mind. It is not always good to play a lot of cricket, so we have to think about our schedule after this series,'' he added.
