Nothing is more ubiquitous than the kurta. And perhaps nothing has been flattened by familiarity quite like it either. A wardrobe constant across generations, the silhouette is now being revisited with far more nuance than it’s often given credit for.
Designers are reworking the kurta through proportion, drape, construction and styling. Some retain the codes of the classic almost entirely. Others push it into new territory, somewhere between tunic, shirt and dress.
(And in this crazy heat, few things feel better than kurtas that breathe and also barely touch the body!)

There are some pieces you don’t have to overthink. You put them on with a white shirt in the morning, and they still make sense at a wedding later that evening. That’s what drew us to Sheetal Zaveri.

She works with what already exists. Fragments from the family workshop at Vithaldas Zaveri Jewellers, reassembled into pieces you can wear now. Antique elements alongside 92.5 silver dipped in gold, finished in two tones that shift as they catch the light.

They layer easily, but don’t need to. You can wear one and feel done.

Familiar, but never predictable.

~ Ritika Mirchandani’s samples are at Ensemble DLF Emporio from today till Tuesday, and the collection doesn’t release for months.
Her signature is cutdana, dense and geometric. What she showed at fashion week was that same visual language moving through craft forms with a completely different quality of movement, with accents of the cutdana she is known for.
Wedding season is running long, and orders placed this week arrive before the collection officially goes live. April 25 to 28, appointments encouraged.

He works in revival, in the weaves and hand techniques that most of the industry has moved away from, but his pieces never feel like preservation. There is always a cut, a border treatment, a proportion that is unmistakably his own. Thirty-eight years of textile being central to our mission, and some arrivals still feel like a reminder of why we started.
