It's always difficult to rate books with experimental formats. The author accepts the dual responsibility of keeping the story coherent while justifying the use of an alternate format.
Janice Hallett gets it right. The story flows through emails for the most parts with bits of text messages, written notes, and other works sprinkled in between.
For the readers who are familiar with reading multi-POV books, this will not be too jarring. That being said, the number of characters may be intimidating.
It is equally tricky to write about murder mysteries. Describing the story without actually talking about the story is akin to describing a dinner just by talking about the cutlery.
I generally rate the book by whether it feels like a waste of time after the last page. I am glad to say that it doesnt.
