Garden and Research Centre is home to thousands of cacti and succulent plants of amazingly different shapes and sizes. There are many rockeries and several greenhouses. A botanist-manager and several gardeners take care of this natural treasure . Quite a few of the current care-takers were trained by the garden’s founder-curator, Dr. J. Sarkaria (1919-2004; surgeon, painter, plant-lover and founder of the National Cactus and Succulent Society). It was due to Dr. Sarkaria’s earnest and loving efforts over many years that this garden—later re-named to honour his memory—came into being.
