Punjabi juttis are more than footwear — they are a piece of Punjab’s cultural history.
Their story is often traced back to the Mughal era, when richly decorated leather footwear was worn in royal courts and by the nobility. Over time, artisans across Punjab gave the style its own identity — shaping soft leather by hand and decorating it with tilla, zari, dabka, beads, sequins and intricate embroidery.
The signature curved or upturned toe became one of the most recognisable features of traditional juttis, especially in more ornate styles. Once associated with ceremonial dressing, status and refinement, the jutti gradually became part of everyday Punjabi life too — worn at weddings, festivals, celebrations and with traditional attire.
What makes a true Punjabi jutti special is that much of its beauty comes from the hand of the karigar: cutting, stitching, shaping and embellishing each pair using techniques passed down through generations.
