On this Teachers' Day, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the teachers, mentors, scientists, researchers, and field experts in agriculture who dedicate their lives to sharing knowledge that empowers our farming community.
Agriculture is a profession where learning never stops. Every successful harvest, every innovative practice, and every sustainable solution is built upon the guidance of those who selflessly teach and inspire.
This year, we are privileged to recognize two extraordinary personalities whose contributions have transformed Indian horticulture and continue to influence thousands of farmers.
🌱 Dr. S. D. Sawant
*Former Vice Chancellor, DBSKKV, Dapoli & Former Director, NRC Grapes, Pune*
Lovingly known among farmers as **"Drakshacharya"**, Dr. Sawant's legacy in grape disease management spans over three decades. Farmers would gather with pen and paper in hand, listening in complete silence as he shared practical insights and scientific solutions. Even today, after retirement, he remains actively engaged with growers, guiding them on soil health, weather-based disease forecasting, sustainable crop management, and much more.
🍎 Shri B. T. Gore Sir
Known across the farming community as **"Dalimbratna"**, Gore Sir has played a pivotal role in shaping modern pomegranate cultivation. Through his institute, he has created a platform where farmers, consultants, and agri-input retailers can learn directly from experience and research. His pioneering approaches—including scientific plantation spacing, bed-based planting systems, single-stem training, fertigation schedules, and integrated disease management—have been adopted by thousands of pomegranate growers across the country.
Their knowledge has not only improved productivity but has also strengthened the confidence of generations of farmers.
