We must admit, we love this time of the year. When spring comes and breathes new life into everything around. Including us! This scarf, its design and color combination is to honor this transition. A couple of years ago Arif was asked by our dear friend and customer Mrs Aveline Herbert to design scarf that would capture the spirit of early spring. White background is thus to represent last layers of snow slowly giving way to first flowers... We have since kept similar scarves in our collections.

Winter in Zanskar. For 6 months each year Zanskar is inaccessible by car as the only road connecting it with the rest of the country (and the world) is covered under a thick layer of snow! For centuries, Zanskaris walked through frozen Zanskar river when wanted to reach Kargil in winter. Today, many Zanskaris spent winters in Leh, which enjoys better infrastructure and milder temperatures. Those who stay in Zanskar for the cold months, must collect food supply during a short summer period.

There is no greater joy for us than to see our design materialize through the skillful hands of our family members. We waited long for this piece to be completed and it since has become one of our favorite pieces. It’s a jaali, which in Kashmiri means “net”. The word is used to describe a scarf whose design resembles a net and is distributed evenly across its surface. Pure, ethically obtained cashmere. Handwoven by our uncle, Hamid.

The one and only, Kashmir Pashmina.
Can you see these tiny irregularities of the thread when looked against the light? They are the result of the fact that the thread used for the weaving of Kashmir Pashmina is spun entirely by hand! It ensures that not even the slightest damage is done to the precious pashmina fiber. A true luxury.
