Appupen’s Garden of the Snake contains two stories from his Mythical Universe of Halahala. There is a sense of clarity in Appupen’s idea of world building which you don’t find very often in such endeavours. “Garden of the Snake” becomes one of your easier entry points into this mythical world. The two stories crafted through silent panels take you through the tussle of life, death and regeneration. The first story, whose panels you see here takes you through a Daliesque landscape following a character who is in search of something. Both stories are very elemental in it’s themes much more than his previous outings in Halahala and when read together, reveals to you, some of the Rules of Engagement in this conjured world. Appupen’s command over his craft makes the silence seamless for the reader and each panels are not to be read but savoured. Garden of the Snake is available on ComixCanal
