વિશ્વ સાહિત્યની સૌથી જૂની નવલકથાઓ પૈકીની એક રોબિન્સન ક્રુઝો, જેના પ્રકાશનને આ વર્ષે 300 વર્ષ પૂર્ણ થયા ત્યારે તેનો ગુજરાતીમાં સંપૂર્ણ અનુવાદ પ્રથમ વખત પ્રકાશિત થઈ રહ્યો છે.તેનો ટૂંક પરિચય.

ડેનિયલ ડેફોની‌ નવલકથા ' રોબિન્સન ક્રુઝો' તેના મુખ્ય પાત્રની આધ્યાત્મિક યાત્રાની કથા છે. માતા-પિતાની સલાહને અવગણીને પોતાને રસ્તે આગળ વધતો યુવાન રોબિન્સન પરમાત્માની ઇચ્છા સામે સતત સંઘર્ષ કરે છે. તેની એકલવાઇ જિંદગીની રોજનીશી, પોતાના જીવન પ્રત્યેની સભાનતા, ઇશ્વર પ્રત્યેની આસ્થા, આધ્યાત્મિક જાગૃતિ તેમજ છેવટે ધર્મને શરણે જઈ આશાનો દિપક શ્રદ્ધાપૂર્વક સળગતો રાખી અન્યને મદદ કરવાની, માણસાઈ નહીં છોડવાની કથા છે.

COSMOS: Every once in a while a book you read compels you to think in a different way and broadens your perception. It leaves you somewhat different, somewhat better of a person than you were before. But rarely, very rarely, a book fundamentally alters your outlook on life and the world around you. Cosmos is such a book.

Us human beings have a tendency to become complacent and indifferent as we get trapped in the humdrum rhythm of life on earth. Our minds occupied by mundane, pressing issues, we tend to forget the absurd immensity of it the cosmos - both in space and in time. This book wakes you from that slumber and takes you on a voyage from the very beginning of time to now, from the microcosm of what makes up everything to the macrocosm of everything that is. It makes you realize just how puny and insignificant, yet how remarkably special we are. We are, in Sagan's words, “starstuff pondering the stars; organized assemblages of ten billion billion billion atoms considering the evolution of atoms”

As the British Commissioner in charge insisted, ‘No vestige should remain to distinguish where the last of the Great Moghuls rests.’ Bahadur Shah Zafar II, the last Mughal Emperor, was a mystic, a talented poet, and a skilled calligrapher. But while Zafar’s Mughal ancestors had controlled most of India, the aged Zafar was king in name only.
