From the banks of the Ganga in Kashi, where the divine and the earthly meet, comes a bead that has protected seekers for over 5,000 years โ the Rudraksha."
If you have ever walked the ghats of Varanasi at dawn โ the conch shells echoing, the lamps flickering on the river, and devotees with Rudraksha malas pressed to their chests โ you have witnessed something that no photograph can fully capture. There is a frequency to that moment. Ancient, grounding, alive.
Rudraksha is at the heart of it. And at ShivaRatna, rooted for three generations in the sacred soil of Banaras, we have devoted ourselves to bringing that living energy to devotees worldwide โ authentically, reverently, and with full transparency.
What Is Rudraksha? The Tear of Shiva Explained
The name itself tells the story: Rudra (one of Lord Shiva's names, meaning "the roarer") and Aksha (eye or teardrop). Hindu scriptures describe Rudraksha as the crystallised tears that Shiva shed out of compassion for suffering humanity โ tears that fell to earth and sprouted into these extraordinary seeds.
Botanically, Rudraksha comes from the Elaeocarpus ganitrus tree, found primarily in the Himalayan foothills, Nepal, and parts of Indonesia. The seed is distinguished by its natural Mukhis โ the vertical lines or facets running from top to bottom โ and these Mukhis are what determine a bead's spiritual significance.
The Science Behind the Sacred โ Modern Research Meets Ancient Wisdom
Spiritual traditions have always honoured Rudraksha, but today science is beginning to offer its own explanations. Research institutions have documented that Rudraksha beads possess electromagnetic properties and can influence the bioelectric field of the human body โ which Ayurveda has long described as the body's pranic system.
Studies suggest that wearing authentic Rudraksha close to the skin can help regulate heart rate, lower cortisol (the stress hormone), and improve overall mental clarity. This aligns perfectly with what practitioners have observed for millennia: a calmer mind, a steadier heartbeat, and a deeper sense of inner equilibrium.

How to Wear and Energise Your Rudraksha
A Rudraksha is not merely jewellery โ it is a consecrated object that benefits from intentional activation. Here is the traditional method as practised in Kashi:
Day of Wearing:
Choose a Monday (Somvar), or an auspicious day such as Mahashivratri, Pradosh, or a solar/lunar eclipse for first-time wearing.
Purification:
Soak the bead overnight in raw milk or Gangajal (Ganga water). Rinse with clean water in the morning.
Energisation (Pran Pratishtha):
Place the Rudraksha before a Shivling or image of Lord Shiva. Light a diya, offer bilva leaves, and chant
Om Namah Shivaya
108 times.
Wearing:
Thread the bead in a red or black silk thread or silver/copper wire. Wear it touching your skin โ throat, wrist, or chest โ so it interacts with your body's energy.
Daily Upkeep:
Remove before consuming non-vegetarian food or alcohol. Do not let others touch your Rudraksha. Re-energise monthly with fresh milk and Shiva mantra.
