“YOU CANNOT OUT-MEDICATE AN UNHEALTHY DIET.”

BOOK:: Brainwashed by your gut

AUTHOR:: Manjari Chandra

RATING:: 3.5/5

REVIEW:: Brainwashed by Your Gut is a good starting point for people who want to understand how food affects their mood, especially in an Indian context. It delivers motivation and guidance, but might not satisfy readers looking for depth or advanced gut science. Think of it as a warm conversation with a nutritionist, not a medical textbook.

If you’re a beginner on the gut-brain journey, it’s worth a read.

"THE GREATEST OBSTACLE TO DISCOVERY IS NOT IGNORANCE- it is the illusion of knowledge."
Book :: OUTLIVE
Author:: PETER ATTIA
Rating :: 3/5
Review :: I expected more from this book.

It is way too long with many repeats and too much information that a usual reader doesn’t need and for a specialist, I assume, it is too simple.

The main thing I got from the book is: to pay attention to your nutrition, sleep well, and exercise as much as you can.

"THE THOUGHT IN YOUR MIND ARE NOT FACTS."
Book :: Don’t believe everything you think.
Author:: Joseph Nguyen
Rating:: 4.5/5
Review: This is quite possibly, the greatest book I have ever read, when it comes to self-improvement and understanding cognitive functionality.

Thinking does disrupt so much in life that we can experience in the present moment.

“Non-thinking” has honestly changed me, and I’ve only practiced it for a little over a day after finishing this book.

I’ll read this book every once in a week, because I want to reinforce this knowledge into my mind.

It does dabble on spirituality a lot but, I don’t mind that aspect of this book at all, because the general message it gets across is wonderful.

"Sometimes the only thing it deserves is forgiveness."

Book: WITHOUT MERIT
Author:: COLLEEN HOOVER
Rating:: 3.5/5
Review:: Without Merit was so much more than I expected. This was the first book I picked this year and I am already off to a great start.

I absolutely enjoyed this book and Merit’s quirks along with the rest of the characters. Colleen Hoover makes sure that every single character is given importance and that stole my heart. Every character in this book is so memorable.

Merit is a teenager with issues, family issues, trust issues, just a whole lot of issues, just like her whole family. Reading about her going through her day to day routine was interesting and saddening at times. When one thinks of a family, you think of kind loving and caring but not in the Voss household, things are much different and definitely interesting. When Merit comes across Sagan everything she thinks she knows and feels goes to s**t, she meets the guy who makes her feel more things than she could ever imagine and it’s incredible to watch.

Once I started reading, I couldn’t stop. The story was intense, but also had it’s comic moments too. And to find the balance and write - I call that a masterpiece!

I am not sure if there will ever be a book two, but I would love for it to be because there are some questions that I would love the author to pursue!

Book: THE PERSONAL MBA
Author: JOSH KAUFMAN
Rating: 4.75/5
Review: The author made his effort to include most of the essential fields of business into a 400 page book, which may be long and heavy to capture all. But he managed to keep the business terms as understandable as possible. The examples are plain and mostly refer to his previous work at P&G, which can be tedious to some readers, as the author didn’t have diversified working experience in business corporations. However, I appreciate his huge knowledge and his advocacy for lifelong learning, a good model for self-study entrepreneurs. Simple, condense and practical, the book is packed with very useful tips. All in all, this book is worth reading.
Things I liked about the book:

1- Each topics starts with a quote. Awesome one.
2- It has a lot of books recommendations, with a crisp explanation of the key topic.
3- It is not just bragging, that typical self-help book ultimately turns into.
4- Value for money. Because it has a huge amount of content charged with too little.

"Progress is a natural result of staying focused on the process of doing anything."
Book: The Practicing Mind
Author: Thomas M. Sterner
Rating: 5/5
Review: The Practicing Mind is a short book (about 140 pages) about mindfulness, being in the present and learning to love the process, and how that will help you stay focused, develop discipline, master skills, tackle challenges and reach your goals. The main point is to be process oriented and stay in the present, as opposed to always keeping your focus on a distance goal. The latter makes you feel like sailing to the horizon - your ship never seems to arrive, as the horizon keeps being pushed off into the distance as you sail. I thought the author did a good job teaching the concept of mindfulness, being in the moment and being process oriented without completely dismissing the importance of setting goals. He reframes the goal as using it as a rudder to steer your efforts, rather than putting your focus on the goal as a destination. This book has a zen or eastern philosophy vibe and is full of gems. Many musical metaphors and examples as the author is a musician.

Encourage yourself on with positive talk – but imagine you’re saying it to someone else.
Book: 10% Better
Author:: Dr Rob Yeung
Rating:: 4/5
Review: There are so many motivation books around these days you need to be motivated to tackle another one. Rob Yeung’s written a few books about self-management and development. This book deals with stress, motivation, health, decision making and a few other topics including creativity. There’s eight chapters which cover the main topics and some extra bits on the side. Generally it’s a reasonable read and covers all the topics well. It also leads you into some exercises and ways to change your life in order to succeed. As the title suggests you achieve improvement in all areas by at least 10% (double digits) and more. There’s some great tips in here and you don’t need to read the book from cover to cover – just dive in where you feel the need is. Personally I don’t need motivating and I don’t tend to suffer from stress but I could do with losing some weight and focusing more on my favourite hobby (drawing). It’s all in there.

"When you are accountable to yourself, it doesn’t matter who else you are accountable to."
Book: GET EPIC S**T DONE.
Author: ANKUR WARIKOO
Rating: 3.25/5
Review: The book is written in an odd conversational style where every chapter and section is a conversation between a student and a teacher. You start off reading the book in that tone, but halfway through it gets extremely annoying. Towards the end of each chapter, the teacher wraps it by saying “The Teacher has Arrived” and that makes the book even more monotonous.

The one good thing about Get Epic S**t Done is that it is not a collection of Warikoo’s Twitter and Instagram threads unlike its prequel. There is some new content to it which probably comes from the conversations he has with his community on social media. The book while very easy to read, could have been even better had it not been written as a conversation.

Book: YOU CAN
Author: GEORGE MATTHEW ADAMS
Rating: 4/5
Review: George Mathew Adams, presents a series of practical tips and strategies for success, drawing on his own experiences and insights in this Book that is very Nice but there were a few aspects of the book that I found less compelling. At times, the writing can feel a bit repetitive, with the same points being made over and over again. But overall it is Very Nice. Overall, I highly recommend "You Can" to anyone who wants to achieve their goals and unlock their full potential. It's a valuable resource for anyone looking for practical advice and inspiration to achieve success in their personal and professional lives.

Not all dreamers are winners, but all winners are dreamers. Your dream is the key to your future. The Bible says that, "without a vision (dream), a people perish." You need a dream, if you're going to succeed in anything you do.

"Work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. The other four balls-- family, health, friends, integrity-- are made of glass. If you drop one of these, it will be irrevocably scuffed, nicked, perhaps even shattered."
Book: THE ONE THING.
Rating:: 4.2/5
Review:: "Extraordinary results demand that you set a priority and act on it."

The book is heavily based on Pareto’s Principle (the 80/20 Principle) which says that “a minority of causes, inputs, or effort usually lead to a majority of the results, outputs, or rewards.”

The authors propose that there’re six lies between you and success which I found really helpful;

1. Everything matters equally.
2. Multitasking
3. A disciplined life
4. Willpower is always on will-call
5. A balanced life
6. Big is bad
