Something From Italy

Something From Italy I started Something from Italy because I couldn’t stop bringing Italy home with me. The food. The regions. The artisans. The people.

And yes… the souvenirs I never leave without.

September 11, 2001 is a day that will forever live in our hearts.

Across the world, people watched, prayed, cried and mourned. But here in New York, it was more than something we watched unfold on television. It was happening in our own backyard. Our families, friends, neighbors and communities were directly affected, and for so many, the loss of that day is still deeply personal.

Today we remember the innocent lives taken far too soon. We honor the firefighters, police officers, EMTs and other first responders who ran toward danger when everyone else was trying to escape. We remember the service members who answered the call in the days and years that followed, and we hold close the families who have carried the weight of September 11 ever since.

We remember the fear and heartbreak, but we also remember how people came together — as neighbors, as Americans and as human beings.

Twenty-five years later, we still remember their names, their courage, their sacrifice and the lives that were forever changed.

From New York to every corner of the world that mourned with us that day...

🇮🇹 Bring a little Italy home every month. ❤️

Something From Italy is about more than opening a box of Italian food. It’s about discovering the people, places, traditions and flavors that make Italy so special.

Each month, we travel from region to region, curating authentic Italian foods, regional specialties and artisan treasures—along with the stories and inspiration behind them.

Maybe you’ll discover a new favorite. Maybe a familiar flavor will bring back a memory. Or maybe, for just a moment, you’ll feel like you’re sitting at a table somewhere in Italy. 🇮🇹

🍅 Some traditions mean more once you’re old enough to understand them. 🇮🇹

Making and jarring our own tomato sauce is something Tony and I have been doing with our families since we were children. Back then? We didn’t exactly appreciate it. 😂

We remember the sighs, the eye rolls and that feeling of “We have to spend the whole weekend doing sauce?!” It felt like an intrusion on the last days of summer.

And then somewhere along the way, we grew up.

And we realized just how special those days really were. ❤️

Every Italian family seems to have their own way of doing sauce—the tomatoes they prefer, how long they cook them, what goes in the jar, what absolutely DOES NOT go in the jar 😂—and everyone is convinced their way is the right way.

But the method isn't really the most important part.

It's the tradition.

Once again, we decided to open up our annual Sauce Day to friends and family who wanted to learn the process and experience it for themselves.

What started with bushels of tomatoes and empty jars turned into a day filled with new friendships, old friends, family, food, dancing, live music, laughter and memories we’ll be talking about long after the last jar of sauce is gone.

And maybe that’s how traditions survive.

Someone teaches you.
You complain about it a little. 😂
You grow up and realize how much it meant.
And then one day, you’re the one teaching someone else.

That might just be our favorite part. 🇮🇹🍅❤️

🍅 Is Anyone Else Planning for Tomato Season?

We’re officially one week away from Sauce Day, and the big debate has begun…

15 bushels or 18?

But really, at the end of the day, does a bushel here or a bushel there even matter? 😂
It’s all about how many jars we have, right?

We make a lot.
We use a lot.
We give away a lot.

And this year, we’re doing something a little different—we’re sharing the tradition, the work, the laughs, and the whole sauce-making experience with about 30 of our closest friends. 🇮🇹🍅

There’s something special about tomato season. The tomatoes, the jars lined up, the smell of sauce cooking, everyone pitching in—and knowing those jars will be enjoyed long after Sauce Day is over.

One week to go.
We’ll be sharing the process along the way. In the meantime, enjoy some photos from last year's weekend of Saucy Fun!

Now tell us…

🍅 How’s your tomato season going?
Have you started yet? And most importantly—how many bushels are you doing this year?
