Azienda Bio@us in Falerone

A milestone we will never forget. 🤎

On 26 August, we officially opened Bio@Us together with the Mayor of Falerone, surrounded by family, friends, neighbours & people who have supported us throughout this journey.

After months of renovating, building, creating, fixing, learning & occasionally wondering what on earth we had started, seeing people actually walking through our doors felt slightly unreal.

The ribbon was cut, our little farm shop officially opened, the property was blessed & we finally got to show everyone what we have been working so hard to create.

And now comes the next chapter.

From 1 September, our luxury guest rooms are officially available to book. Private rooms surrounded by olive trees, countryside & some rather spectacular views over the Marche hills.

Thank you to everyone who celebrated this day with us. And especially to the Comune di Falerone for making our opening feel genuinely special.

And where else would you find us tonight than behind our green Bio@Us market stall? 😄

Tonight we’re at the 29th Maialata in Piazza in beautiful Montefiore dell’Aso, surrounded by food, music, people & that unmistakable Italian summer atmosphere.

Our stall is packed again with things we make ourselves at Bio@Us:

🌿 Freshly dried herbs from our farm
📿 Necklaces & handmade jewellery
💎 Natural stone bracelets
🫒 And plenty of other little Bio@Us creations

Everything made, grown, dried or prepared with our own hands in Falerone.

The festival starts at 18:00 and there’s also a Mercatino Artigianato, food stands, music & entertainment.

Every time I ask a vet here for help with a chicken or one of our small animals, I seem to get the same answer: just wring its neck.

Yeah... we're not very good at that. 😅

So we have our own little intensive care instead. And so far, somehow, it has a 100% success rate.

Current patient: Jochem Eier. 🐓

We suspect bumblefoot. Five days ago he could barely stand. Since then he's had anti inflammatory medication, pain relief, a good bath, massages, treatment for lice and probably a completely unreasonable amount of love.

This morning he stood on his feet again for a little while.

And then I finally heard him mumbling away again. ❤️

That's Jochem coming back.

Yes, chickens and eggs are part of our farm and ultimately part of what we produce.

But being farm animals doesn't mean they don't deserve love, respect and proper care.

Come on Jochem Eier. You've got this. ❤️

Ogni volta che chiedo aiuto a un veterinario qui per una gallina o uno dei nostri piccoli animali, sembra che la risposta sia sempre la stessa: tiragli il collo.

Ecco... noi non siamo molto bravi in questo. 😅

Quindi abbiamo creato la nostra piccola terapia intensiva. E finora, in qualche modo, ha un tasso di successo del 100%.

Paziente del momento: Jochem Eier. 🐓

Sospettiamo una pododermatite. Cinque giorni fa riusciva a malapena a stare in piedi. Da allora ha ricevuto antinfiammatori, antidolorifici, un bel bagno, massaggi, un trattamento contro i pidocchi e probabilmente una quantità assolutamente esagerata di amore.

Questa mattina è riuscito di nuovo a stare un po' sulle zampe.

E finalmente l'ho sentito di nuovo borbottare. ❤️

Questo è Jochem che sta tornando.

Sì, le galline e le uova fanno parte della nostra azienda agricola e della nostra produzione.

Ma essere animali da allevamento non significa che non meritino amore, rispetto e cure adeguate.

Forza Jochem Eier. Ce la puoi fare. ❤️

Iedere keer als ik hier een dierenarts om hulp vraag voor een kip of één van onze kleine dieren, lijkt het antwoord hetzelfde: draai gewoon z'n nek om.

Tja... daar zijn wij dus niet zo goed in. 😅

Dus hebben we inmiddels onze eigen kleine intensive care. En op de één of andere manier heeft die tot nu toe een succespercentage van 100%.

Huidige patiënt: Jochem Eier. 🐓

We vermoeden bumblefoot. Vijf dagen geleden kon hij amper nog staan. Inmiddels heeft hij ontstekingsremmers, pijnstilling, een lekker bad, massages, een behandeling tegen luizen en waarschijnlijk een totaal onverantwoorde hoeveelheid liefde gehad.

Vanmorgen stond hij eindelijk weer een beetje op zijn poten.

En toen hoorde ik hem eindelijk weer een beetje brabbelen. ❤️

Dat is onze Jochem die weer terugkomt.

Ja, kippen en eieren horen bij onze boerderij en uiteindelijk ook bij wat we produceren.

Maar dat het boerderijdieren zijn, betekent niet dat ze geen liefde, respect en goede verzorging verdienen.

Kom op Jochem Eier. Je kunt dit. ❤️

This one hurts.

This morning they were still together.

A few hours later Yin was gone.

There were no signs that anything was wrong. No warning. Just... gone.

Yang has been walking around looking for her sister ever since. Watching that is almost harder than losing Yin itself.

I know they're "just chickens" to some people.

To us they were never just chickens.

Rest easy, little Yin. ❤️

Questa fa davvero male.

Stamattina erano ancora insieme.

Poche ore dopo Yin non c'era più.

Non c'erano segnali che qualcosa non andasse. Nessun avvertimento. Semplicemente... non c'era più.

Da allora Yang continua a cercare la sua sorellina. Vederla così è quasi più difficile della perdita di Yin.

Per qualcuno saranno "solo galline".

Per noi non lo sono mai state.

Ciao piccola Yin. ❤️

Deze doet pijn.

Vanmorgen liepen ze nog samen rond.

Een paar uur later was Yin er ineens niet meer.

Geen tekenen dat er iets mis was. Geen waarschuwing. Gewoon... weg.

Sindsdien loopt Yang overal haar zusje te zoeken. Dat zien is bijna nog moeilijker dan het verlies van Yin zelf.

Voor sommige mensen zijn het "maar kippen".

Voor ons zijn ze dat nooit geweest.

Rust zacht, lieve Yin. ❤️

Vandaag is het precies 1 jaar geleden dat we de sleutels kregen van ons nieuwe avontuur in Italië.

Wat begon als een droom, werd een jaar vol stof, beton, lange dagen, tegenslagen, onverwachte uitdagingen, maar vooral ongelooflijk veel vooruitgang.

In één jaar tijd hebben we duizenden meters kabels en leidingen aangelegd, meerdere badkamers gebouwd, vier gastenkamers gerealiseerd en stap voor stap onze boerderij omgetoverd tot de plek die we altijd voor ogen hadden.

We zijn er nog niet. Er wacht nog genoeg werk. Maar als we terugkijken naar waar we een jaar geleden stonden, kunnen we alleen maar trots zijn op wat er al is bereikt.

Bedankt aan iedereen die ons heeft gevolgd, geholpen, aangemoedigd of gewoon heeft meegelezen. Zonder die steun was deze reis een stuk zwaarder geweest.

Op naar het volgende hoofdstuk. We kunnen niet wachten om jullie binnenkort te verwelkomen bij Bio@Us in Falerone. 🇮🇹❤️

Ruim een half jaar geleden begonnen we eindelijk aan de verbouwing van onze gastenkamers. Op dat moment stonden er alleen nog wat muren en een hoop dromen. Stap voor stap hebben we alles zelf opgebouwd tot de kamers die we voor ogen hadden.

Ruime kamers, een comfortabel tweepersoonsbed & een luxe badkamer waar je echt even tot rust kunt komen.

Als we de foto's naast elkaar zien, zijn we best trots op hoe ver we zijn gekomen. 💚

Weer een mijlpaal voor Bio@Us. ❤️

Vandaag zijn de allerlaatste vloertegels gelegd. In totaal ruim 250 m² vloer. Ook de laatste 150 m² wandpanelen zijn geplaatst.

Achter de schermen is de afgelopen periode ongelofelijk veel werk verzet.

✨ 400 meter riool aangelegd en aangesloten op het openbare netwerk. ✨ 2500 meter elektriciteitskabel gelegd, binnen én buiten. ✨ 250 meter nieuwe waterleiding aangelegd. ✨ 3000 kg beton gestort. ✨ 7 nieuwe luxe badkamers gerealiseerd. ✨ 4 luxe gastenkamers gebouwd.

En we zijn er nog niet. Nu werken we hard aan de laatste fase: het restaurant, de boerderijwinkel en de professionele keuken.

De laatste loodjes zijn, zoals ze zeggen, echt de zwaarste. Niet alleen fysiek, maar ook mentaal en financieel. Soms vraag je je af hoe je nog een stap verder moet zetten.

Gelukkig staan we er niet alleen voor. Zonder onze familie waren we nooit gekomen waar we nu staan. Ook iedereen die via social media een bericht heeft gestuurd of zich heeft aangeboden om te helpen, willen we uit de grond van ons hart bedanken. Jullie steun betekent meer dan woorden kunnen uitdrukken.

We hopen dat er nog mensen zijn die ons willen helpen om ook die laatste meters af te leggen. Samen kunnen we ervoor zorgen dat Bio@Us eindelijk zijn deuren kan openen.

Bedankt dat jullie met ons meereizen in dit avontuur. Iedere like, reactie, gedeeld bericht of helpende hand brengt onze droom een stukje dichterbij. ❤️

Last night was terrifying.

The weather warning mentioned hail, but nothing prepared us for what actually came down.

Michel and I ran outside carrying giant cardboard boxes and garden cushions to protect the car while huge chunks of ice were crashing down around us. We got hit over and over again. Today we're both covered in bruises, I'm walking around with a huge bump on my head, and we're still finding ice everywhere.

Somehow... the car survived. 😂

The storm itself went on for hours. Today we're heading outside to see what damage it left behind, but honestly... we're not expecting good news.

We already found that the netting around our chicken run has completely collapsed. Fortunately, the chickens were safe inside their solid coop, so they're all fine. ❤️

Looking back now we can laugh about it, but at that moment all we could think was: cover the car and hope for the best.

This is definitely a night we'll never forget.

Ieri sera è stato davvero spaventoso.

L'allerta meteo parlava di grandine, ma niente ci aveva preparati a quello che è successo.

Michel e io siamo corsi fuori con enormi scatoloni e i cuscini da giardino per proteggere l'auto mentre enormi blocchi di ghiaccio cadevano tutto intorno a noi. Siamo stati colpiti più e più volte. Oggi siamo entrambi pieni di lividi, io ho un grosso bernoccolo in testa e stiamo ancora trovando pezzi di ghiaccio ovunque.

In qualche modo... l'auto si è salvata. 😂

Il temporale è andato avanti per ore. Oggi faremo un giro per vedere tutti i danni, ma sinceramente non ci aspettiamo buone notizie.

Abbiamo già visto che la rete del recinto delle galline è completamente crollata. Per fortuna le galline erano al sicuro dentro il loro ricovero e stanno tutte bene. ❤️

Adesso riusciamo anche a sorriderci sopra, ma in quel momento pensavamo solo a una cosa: coprire l'auto e sperare nel meglio.

Una notte che non dimenticheremo facilmente.
