In 2007, Nike planned to release a special Halloween-themed SB Dunk Low inspired by Wes Craven’s iconic 1984 horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street. The sneaker was designed with a red and green colorway, referencing Freddy Krueger’s infamous sweater, and a silver leather Swoosh symbolizing the razor-sharp gloves worn by the terrifying villain. The shoe had sneakerheads buzzing with anticipation and was poised to be one of the most coveted releases in Nike’s history. However, just before the launch, disaster struck. New Line Cinema, which owned the rights to A Nightmare on Elm Street, issued a cease-and-desist order, claiming that the design infringed on their intellectual property. Nike was forced to halt production, and the sneaker was pulled from shelves just before its official release. Despite this setback, some pairs had already made it into the hands of retailers—one of which was located in Mexico—before being confiscated by Nike and destroyed.
