Des Oiseaux – Mario Giacomelli

Photographer, painter, and poet Mario Giacomelli acquired his first camera in the early 1950s and immediately recognized the connections between the practice of painting and capturing light through his lens. He soon set up his own darkroom, where, choosing to work with high-contrast paper, he developed a distinctive photographic eye. With camera movement, blurred focus, and the interplay of light and shadow, Giacomelli created dreamlike scenes in which beings emerge as ephemeral apparitions. His taste for lyrical abstraction, especially in painting, is evident in his photographs, which often reveal his inner state—particularly through the graphic intensity of light variations. Deeply attached to his native Marche region in Italy, Giacomelli captured endless plains traced with plowed furrows, shadows stretching across fields, and rural house façades, many photographs also offering glimpses of birds, clouds, female faces, or other forms. His birds rise from dense vegetation, appear like shadow puppets on translucent surfaces, dwell within vaporous clouds, or materialize as fragile presences. Choreographed flocks of white birds echo the lines of the foliage as animal and plant realms dissolve into each another. Between arrival and disappearance, reality and dream, Giacomelli’s birds resemble calligraphic marks spreading into a musical score against the backdrop of a rural landscape.

To accompany this visual collection, Jean-Noël Rieffel, veterinarian and director of the French Office for Biodiversity in the Centre-Val de Loire region, has made his first contribution to the Des oiseaux collection. He draws connections between Giacomelli’s images and ornithology, paying particular attention to larids (gulls and seagulls) and corvids, subjects dear to the photographer.

Une Vie – Madeleine de Sinéty

Madeleine de Sinéty. Une vie is the first monograph dedicated to the photographer, whose work spans four decades, across France and the United States. A self-taught photographer, Madeleine de Sinéty produced her best-known series in the village of Poilley, in Brittany, where she settled in the early 1970s. There, she documented the lives of its inhabitants, in colour and black and white, through an approach that was both artistic and deeply human.

The body of work she leaves behind is the result of a keen observation of reality, whether in Paris, New York or Poilley. With humanity and tenderness, she offers an intimate account of a world in the midst of change.

Madeleine de Sinéty worked as an illustrator for fashion magazines and took up photography in the late 1960s during a trip to Iran. In 1972, she left Paris to settle in Poilley (Ille-et-Vilaine). From the 1980s, she moved to the United States, first to California and then to Maine. Her work, praised by the American photographer Mary Ellen Mark, was the subject of an exhibition at the BNF in 1996. The exhibition Un village, dedicated to her work in Poilley and presented at the GwinZegal contemporary art centre in Guingamp in 2020, was a resounding success.
This book has been released to correspond with the first major retrospective dedicated to her work and exhibited in paris at Jeu de Paume from June to September 2026.

Winner of the Grand Prix Images Vevey 2023/2024, Red Horse is a project by Sasha Kurmaz that began after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The volume is presented as a personal diary, made up of collages created with personal documentary photos, found images, handwritten notes, drawings, and objects found on the street. It is a personal journey that highlights the drama of the destruction spreading across every square, every street, and every life with extreme delicacy. The landscape is transformed under the bombs, just as the daily lives of those who inhabit it are completely disrupted.

Blinded by Your Grace – Sarah Chaplin Espenon

In an ambitious collaborative research project that moves beyond storm chasing as subculture or spectacle, Blinded by Your Grace draws on and reframes existing visual material made by women who intentionally move towards danger. The project considers risk not as an inevitable condition, but as an unevenly distributed privilege: one that requires access to time, mobility, and the social permission to linger, wait and voluntarily suspend protection.
Registering storms for their beauty and intensity, the work asks who is permitted to approach threat, who is expected to remain safe, and whose proximity to danger is socially legitimised. Through extensive research and collaboration with women storm chasers worldwide, Chaplin Espenon advances a critical visual position in which storm chasing becomes an allegorical terrain through which broader structures of power, visibility, and autonomy come into view.

By gathering a diversity of contributions and harmonising them across the printed page through grainy, oblique reproductions that signal instability and the sustained presence of a female gaze, Blinded by Your Grace approaches risk not as spectacle or thrill, but as a deliberate condition of vulnerability. Here, to seek danger is not to court destruction, but to enter into a state of heightened attention — one that involves waiting, exposure, and the willingness to be undone by forces larger than oneself for the sake of devotion and beauty.

Risk is framed as a form of agency historically encouraged in some bodies and discouraged, regulated, or rendered invisible in others. Who has the right to pursue danger, and who is obliged to stay safe? Storms are approached as conditions that demand negotiation rather than conquest, holding beauty and threat, attraction and fear in tension.

Within turbulent skies blacked out by dust, rain, and debris, the visible collapses and the politics of looking surface, as Chaplin Espenon works alongside her collaborators to choose proximity to danger.

6 Mid-American Chants by Sherwood Anderson, 11 Midwest Photographs by Art Sinsabaugh – Art Sinsabaugh
1st edition, 1964

A publication with eleven b/w images by Art Sinsabaugh and six poems by Sherwood Anderson, with a note on Anderson’s poetry by Edward Dahlberg and a beautiful poem by Frederick Eckman ‘To Sherwood Anderson, in Heaven” in which, talking about his own father and addressing Anderson, who had passed away 23 years earlier, he writes ‘But then he is seventy years old; his eyes turn mostly backward; into a past that you, Sherwood, gave a kind of gloomy immortality.’

This rare book is a very slim, panoramic folio, spiral-bound with brown printed wrapper; the awkward sizing was to accomodate Sinsabaugh’s panoramic photographs.
A Guggenheim and National Endowment for the Arts fellow, Sinsabaugh (1924-1983) was an assistant professor at the University of Illinois. This is his first publication, released 1964 for 6.50 USD.
Sherwood Anderson (1876 – 1941) was an American novelist and short story writer, known for subjective and self-revealing works, who became a writer after a nervous breakdown that led him to abandon his family and successful business.

Hujar: Contact explores the Morgan Library & Museum’s extensive archive of original contact sheets and job books made by the beloved photographer Peter Hujar between 1954 and 1987, which come together to form an enthralling visual document of the artist’s creative process.

Hujar’s empathetic eye focused in on varying subjects – crowds of protest, damaged relics, farm animals – but above all he was preoccupied with making portraits of the overlapping circles of artists, writers, and underground luminaries he moved within in New York. Accompanying critical texts by Joel Smith establish a chronology of Hujar’s contact sheets, presenting an artist developing, experimenting with, and refining his practice against the tumultuous cultural politics and sea changes of gay life conveyed by the words ‘Stonewall’ and ‘AIDS’.

Throughout his career Hujar recorded more than a thousand photo shoots in his job books. These documents, transcribed and annotated by Olivia McCall, illuminate the contact sheets, rich in never-before-seen images as well as the earliest iterations of Hujar’s most iconic works, including portraits of Susan Sontag, David Wojnarowicz, Candy Darling, Gary Indiana, Fran Lebowitz, and Paul Thek.

This volume providescaptivating insight into a master at work, forming an immersive chronicle of Hujar’s poignant efforts to connect, through photography, with the creative communities that defined his life, outlook, and art.

All Hallows Eve (Signed Copy) – Ed Templeton

All Hallows Eve is a selection of photographs taken on Halloween Night through the decades, pulled from Ed Templeton’s vast personal image archive. The book includes photographs made in in Los Angeles, Tokyo, Orange County and London, as well as the during the the annual Halloween Skate Demos from his days as a pro skater.

Ed Templeton (b.1972) is an American painter and photographer whose work reflects human behavior with emphasis on youth subcultures, religious affectation, and suburban conventions using a cinéma vérité approach embracing chance encounters. Templeton is a respected cult figure in the subculture of skateboarding, a two-time world-champion, and Skateboarding Hall of Fame inductee. He is best known for his photographic books and multi-media exhibitions. His work has been exhibited in museums worldwide including, MOCA, Los Angeles, ICP, NYC, Palais de Tokyo, Paris, Kunsthalle, Vienna, Pier 24 Photography, San Francisco. His work is held in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, SMAK Museum Belgium, Orange County Museum of Art, Bonnefanten Museum, Maastricht.

All Hallows Eve is limited to 500 numbered copies, each including a 5×7 inch original print that has been signed by the artist.

Conceived as a long-form reflection on a practice unfolding over more than two decades, the book seeks to render the complexity of a body of work that moves across photography, collage, found imagery, drawing, and video, tracing its development from its initial articulations to the present.

For Spranzi, photography and video are, first and foremost, ways of seeing and of reimagining the world. Rather than privileging technique, her attention is directed toward the elementary gestures of the photographic act—looking, enlarging, reducing, reproducing, reassembling—understood as actions through which the image is continuously analyzed, displaced, and rewritten. These processes generate bodies of works in which fragments, objects, and memories are staged, and in which the familiar is subtly unsettled by slippages and suspensions of meaning.

The volume articulates the evolution of Spranzi’s practice while foregrounding a set of recurring motifs that persistently traverse and structure her research, such as the tension between scale and intimacy, the circulation and transformation of images, and the oscillation between reality and marvel.

The publication features original contributions by Cecilia Canziani, Ilaria Gianni, Estelle Hoy, Quinn Latimer, and Simone Menegoi, whose essays offer historically grounded readings, critical perspectives, and poetic deviations that run alongside and in resonance with Spranzi’s work.

Documentation of the War – Vladyslav Krasnoshchok

“Documentation of the War” chronicles the four-year-long conflict that began with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The images come in various formats and, at first glance, are disorienting, as they resemble old archival footage: Vladyslav Krasnoshchok transforms the photographs using various technical manipulations, producing this anachronistic effect, which ties back to the Ukrainian photographic tradition.

Born in Kharkiv in 1980, Krasnoshchok studied medicine and, until 2018, worked at his city’s public emergency hospital. He has been actively involved in photography since 2008 and has been a member of the Shilo group since 2010 (along with Sergiy Lebedynskyy, Vadim Trykoz, and Oleksiy Sobolev).

The book is designed Jason Eskenazi and Alexander Paterson-Jones.
