Welcome to the family, Wouter Vliegen ! 🐔🧡🎶

Welcome new Galli artist: Wouter Vliegen

Wouter currently plays with Suzan & Freek, one of the biggest Dutch acts of recent years. Having sold out 10 Gelredome stadium shows (with a total audience of 400,000!), they will be performing at 17 festivals this summer, including Pinkpop, Concert at Sea and Zwarte Cross.

Wouter has chosen Galli Synthesis, an innovative set developed by Tomasso Galli. What makes it so special? The string has two windings on top of each other: 1x stainless steel and 1x nickel. This creates a string that has both warmth (nickel) and punch (stainless steel). The best of both worlds — a choice also made by Nick Kamphuis, Ivo Severijns and Udo Pannekeet.

After studying at the Pop Academy in Enschede, Wouter worked with a wide range of acts and artists, including Mart Hoogkamer, Jan Smit, Berget Lewis, Jaap Reesema, Django Wagner, Wudstik, René Froger, Miss Montreal and Lange Frans. He has been playing with Suzan & Freek for some time now. We are very happy to have Wouter as a Galli artist — come and see him this summer!

Gallistrings Synthesis is nu al enkele jaren mijn eerste keus. De snaarspanning van deze snaren voelt iets strakker dan een gemiddelde set van deze dikte, en dat sluit heel goed aan op mijn speelstijl. Daarnaast zou ik de textuur omschrijven als precies in het midden qua grip en ruwheid; ze zijn niet zo glad als sommige nickelwound sets (waarbij je snel grip verliest), maar ook niet zo ruw als sommige stainless steel snaren.

Klankmatig biedt Synthesis mij een fijne combinatie van de warmte van nickel en de punch van stainless steel. Stainless steel snaren vind ik vaak op termijn fijn klinken, maar zijn te scherp als ze nieuw zijn. En ze voelen te ruw aan, waardoor slides soms onverwacht ‘grijpen’.

Synthesis klinkt voor mij het lekkerst als ze nét uit de verpakking komen; ze zijn dan helder (maar niet scherp) en ze houden die helderheid een aardige tijd. Ik gebruik veel verschillende basgitaren en wanneer een bepaalde bas doffer begint te klinken is het tijd om de set te vervangen. Dit zal met intensief gebruik voor mij na ongeveer 2 maanden zijn. De individuele diktes van de 45-105 set voelen voor mij comfortabel en in balans. Dit geld ook voor de 5-snarige 45-130 set.

Ik ben dus nog steeds heel blij met Galli Synthesis en ik zou ze iedereen aanraden die - net als ik - op zoek is naar punch én het niet snel ‘dichtslaan’ bij een stevigere aanslag.
