Leporello is a bookshop devoted to photobooks as starting and connecting point with graphic design, architecture, illustrated books, essays, literature and who knows what else. Is an exhibition venue and a project space focused on books and images, with the aim of promoting and disseminating a multidisciplinary and wide approach to visual culture. Is a word with a funny sound, reminding an accordion book, Mozart, or simply, in Italian, a small hare.

Ieri abbiamo sbaraccato e ce ne siamo andate da Cortona!

Grazie a tutto il team di per averci accolte insieme alla nostra tonnellata e mezzo di libri!
Sono stati quattro giorni inaugurali intensissimi, pieni di scambi di idee, incontri pazzeschi e riflessioni profonde sul valore del libro fotografico. Siamo felicissime di aver avuto l’opportunità di tracciare una mappatura della fotografia italiana e dei suoi legami con l’editoria internazionale. 📚✨

E ora la notizia importante: noi ce ne siamo andate, ma i nostri libri no! 😉

Siccome lo spazio non è infinito (purtroppo!), abbiamo lasciato a Palazzo Baldelli una selezione super curata di quasi tutti gli autori del festival. Il bookshop di Cortona On The Move continuerà ad accompagnarvi per tutta la durata del festival fino al 1 novembre!

Grazie a chi è passato a trovarci, a chi ha sfogliato, a chi ha chiacchierato con noi e a chi ha fatto spazio in valigia per un nuovo libro. ❤️

Yesterday we packed up and said goodbye to Cortona!

A huge thank you to the entire team for welcoming us along with our ton and a half of books!
The four opening days were insanely intense—packed with lively exchanges of ideas, amazing encounters, and deep reflections on the value of photobooks. We couldn’t be happier to have had the chance to map out Italian photography and its connections to international
publishing. 📚✨

And now for the important news: we might be gone, but our books aren’t! 😉

Since space isn’t infinite (unfortunately!), we’ve left a super curated selection featuring almost all the festival’s authors at Palazzo Baldelli. The bookshop will keep you company for the entire duration of the festival, all the way through November 1st!

Thanks to everyone who stopped by, flicked through the pages, chatted with us, or made room in their suitcase for a new book. ❤️

🎊Arles 2026 Book Awards🎊 Les Rencontres d'Arles

We are still in Arles! Come see us at École nationale supérieure de la photographie (ENSP). Sharing another great book shortlisted for this years award and the winner of the FE+SK Book Award 2006 at Fotografia Europea.

The book project Pixels of Memories بكسلات الذاكرة combines conceptual reflections on memory, destruction and the invisibility of history. The book takes up this visual language and creates a fragment of memories, image errors and gaps. It becomes a space of testimony and reflection in which viewers must decipher the layers of images and their meaning. Hameed has scoured the entire map of Iraq on Google Maps and compiled an archive of hundreds of screen shots. In Iraq, the 360-degree views are not uploaded to the platform by the company itself, but by private individuals. Hameed is particularly interested in the errors and gaps he comes across during his research.

Young unfolds the story of a generation forced to seek a future outside Italy and the search for the reasons behind this choice.

“Almost every Sunday we took the Fiat Panda and drove into the mountains: we picknicked in the fields, skied, picked mushrooms and wild berries, and looked for wild animals.”
Through fast-paced, rhythmic sequences of words and images that capture our attention like in a film, Martina Zaninelli’s small but powerful book unfolds the story of a generation forced to seek a future outside Italy and the search for the reasons behind this choice. “The bubble, in which we grew up, began to crack. Probably because we stopped being children too,” continues Martina Zaninelli, reassuring us that the Fiat Panda now lives with her abroad.
The innovative power of the book lies in the interwoven narrative of contemporary photographs, archive images, ‘trouvées’ photos, phrases, written memories, slogans, and faces that emerge from the past to create a sort of storyboard, with a narrative process that would have appealed to the screenwriters of Italian comedy, from Cecchi d’Amico to Maccari to Scola.

Giù in fondo is a book about fragments, research, and collaboration. For months, Davide studied the space where the Winter Garden once stood. What he found was an empty crossword puzzle. He collected it, observed it, set it up, and photographed it. This crossword puzzle reflects the heretical inventory work he is carrying out: an inventory where invention, creativity, serious play, and documented imagination emerge, characterizing his approach. Fecarotti invites his followers to participate in a fragmentary reconstruction of the Winter Garden and its layers. Faire l’état des lieux – to take stock, to become aware of a place. Walking, exploring, and observing, wherever it may be, wherever he has scattered his pollen: under the parking lot of Boulevard des Lices, at the Musée Bleu, in the archives, in memories, and in imaginations. A work that collects notebooks, articles, sketches, objects, and impressions. Impressions of light.

OUR JULY NEWSLETTER IS OUT!

July has arrived, and for us at Leporello, it means one thing: we are going to be heavily on the road! This month, the bookstore is literally packing its bags and traveling between international fairs, festivals, and summer residencies. We are heading to France for our annual date at the Arles Books Fair, staying in Italy for some huge news: we will be curating the official bookshop for Cortona On The Move! Then moving to the French countryside in August for our summer workshop at LaBabuch.
Back in Rome, the bookshop will be open on select dates, where you can still catch Marta Roberti’s beautiful exhibition Down Dog!
