💛 Gamboge Gum💛
This limited edition HORADAM Aquarell range from our Retro range is an intense, semi-transparent yellow shade.
This shade has been known in Europe since the 17th century and was used frequently, especially in the 18th and 19th centuries. Originally, the raw material for this color was extracted from the resin of the Southeast Asian gutta tree. The original shade/ pigment is toxic, which is why it is now produced from synthetic pigments.
With our annual promotion, we want to revive this wonderful, versatile shade. This Gamboge Gum contains the pigments PY150 and PY65. If you use only a little water when painting, it has a slightly brownish character. If you dilute the colour with more water when painting, you get a beautiful, bright, warm yellow. 😊
At first glance, this colour reminds a little of the quinacridone gold hue. However, the quinacridone gold hue is slightly more brownish (towards ochre) than the Gamboge gum.
Good to know:
There are three main reasons why some colours are produced with different pigments over time:
- Poor lightfastness of the original pigments
- Availability (not every pigment is available indefinitely)
- Some pigments have been found to be toxic over time
These issues have often led to further research and the creation of new (often synthetic) pigments.
