Elephants in Sicily. Yes! They existed.

The story was even more curious. These were very small elephants, called dwarf elephants. You may see their skeletons in the Archaeological museum in Syracuse, not far from Taormina.

You may also meet another elephant not far from Taormina. The fountain on the central square of Catania in front of the Cathedral with a sculpture of the elephant "U Liotru" made of black volcanic stone.
