βWhen this City was afflicted by the plague in 1576, the Senate vowed to erect a Temple and dedicate it to Christ the Redeemer. [β¦] In fulfillment of this vow, and in remembrance of the grace received, the Serene Highness, accompanied with his customary majesty by the Ministers of the foreign Crowns and the Senators, customarily visits that Church every year on the third Sunday of July, when the solemn Feast of the Redeemer of the World is celebrated.β
