With a history dating back to 1882, The Jersey New Waterworks Company Limited is the oldest established Company on the Island of Jersey. Growing to meet the challenges of a rapidly expanding Island population with limited natural water reserves – nearly all of the Island’s water supply is derived from rainfall. To do this we must collect untreated or ‘raw’ water, store it, treat it and then distri

bute it to our customers’ taps. You are welcome to visit our two biggest reservoirs at Queens Valley and Val de la Mare which have countryside trails for you to enjoy.

The desalination plant is now in action.

A hot, dry summer has put extra pressure on our water supplies, so we’ve turned on the plant to help support.

From today it’ll contribute an extra 5.5 million litres of water a day into Val de la Mare reservoir. That’s equivalent to around a quarter of the Island’s average daily supply.

Whilst the plant is here to help in times of severe, long hot and dry weather, it’s important we all make daily changes to how we view and use water, to ease pressure on our Island’s supplies.

A furze fire that came dangerously close to the desalination plant yesterday was brought under control thanks to the swift response of Jersey Fire and Rescue Service, protecting the site, neighbouring properties and the surrounding area.

This incident was certainly a very close call and a stark reminder of the risks posed by wildfire. The desalination plant is a vital part of Jersey's drought response. Had it been damaged, we would have lost critical resilience for the Island's water supply during prolonged dry periods.

Water resources are already under pressure following an exceptionally hot and dry summer, and the plant may yet be needed to replenish supplies. Thankfully there wasn’t any operational impact.

The blaze highlights that, despite recent rainfall, ground conditions remain extremely dry, and the risk of wildfire is still high. We urge everyone to take extra care and avoid any activities that could start a fire.

We’re extremely grateful to Jersey Fire and Rescue Service, our own teams and members of the public for acting so quickly to help protect this critical part of our water supply infrastructure.

A little heads up if you’re in and around Seaton Place in St Helier this week...

We’ll be carrying out some planned upgrades to parts of the mains network on Seaton Place, by the junction with Gloucester Street, between Tuesday 25 and Friday 28 August.

From 09:00 on Tuesday, there will be a one-way diversion in place with access from Gloucester Street only.

From Wednesday to Friday, the works will start from 08:00. Access to premises will still be available during this time.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we carry out these upgrades.

116 litres of water...

That's how much, on average, one person uses A DAY in Jersey.

Most of us could use a little less and, to help spread that message, our very own Hosepipe Bandit recently took to the streets of St Helier.

Whilst some of you were clued up on how much water you use each day, others were a little more optimistic.

Nothing like a hosepipe in your face to focus the mind on saving water.

Be warned...the Hosepipe Bandit has no filter...and he may strike again.
