A brace of Locobox and related OEM issues of my favourite compressor. The bright orange “original” unit having arrived this week. Interesting are the subtle differences in design (and perhaps era of issue). Locobox Choker has a battery door and front release screw. Jacks are located further to the front of the casing. The Volz has the DC power jack is to the side as opposed to the Locobox and Nadines where it’s found offset at the rear. And of course, bespoke k***s differing per brand. Lovely geeky history 😂 .

(Final point - just like Maxon and Guyatone, a switch was made from 18v power via two batteries to 9v one battery as time progressed).

Not mine (alas) but I happen to notice it on a sales site here in Japan. It must be quite unusual to have your name permanently on your prized purchase for eternity long after it has passed out of your hands, but nethertheless quite cool it must be said. Good old Charlie, what a smart piece of kit, albeit a purchase to save up for. One for Gilmour fans too.

Big fat woolly goodness from this wide-case mid 1990s beast! I’ve never set eyes on this model before, it’s the IC Tone Bender circuit but with some huge caps internally. Of course it’s excellent on bass but pretty neat on guitar two, I’d imagine with heavy riffage and down tuning too. A unique fuzz piece!

A re-purchase. Couldn’t resist an example in good condition.

The Tokyo Sound. Co Ltd (Guyatone) TD-X Tube Echo is a hybrid circuit pairing their well regarded digital delay circuit (from the MD-2/3), with a 12AX7 Tube saturation and hi-pass roll off filtering section.

More detail:
“Analog Simulation - blends in tube saturation on the Delay Repeats against the unfiltered Delay sound. This saturation is similar to the effect of an Analog Delay unit on the original signal, where note clarity decreases with each additional repeat.

Tape Simulation - blends in a preset EQ curve against the unfiltered Delay sound. This EQ curve cuts ultra lows and high frequencies and boosts lows and mids, similar to the sound of a vintage tape echo unit.”

The FLIP series run on 12v DC and of course fun can be had swapping various Tubes/Valves in for chasing the onset and character of the saturation function. Produced in the mid 90s.

Newly arrived today and a wee test tonight. Early version of the “Voodoo Axe” in the larger Vision enclosure, sporting two buffered outs as well as Hard Wire output. This pedal takes the original spaceship Axis fuzz, adds a Tone control, DC power and the aforementioned line driver outputs.

I love a good mystery don’t you? So here we have an odd pair.

To the Left - a JMX Corp 10 Band Graphic Equalizer, a clear Guyatone OEM in black. Early case (clam shell two part design, steel) equivalent to the Guyatone PS-PS-111 (blue).

On the right: JMX Corp C-109 Compressor. Bespoke case, lightweight. Inside - the circuit board of the most excellent Guyatone PS-103 Driving Box Compressor, though of course era wise we’ve crossed over, clearly the 103 lived a while earlier generationally speaking.

And there we have it, all I have on these chaps, begging the question who, and where, were JMX Corp?

EffectsDatabase lists JMX as Swedish, anyone can confirm? And they clearly sold that first big box line of Guyatone in black.
