Master Buddhist Sculptor Akei Matsumoto Studio – Exhibition of Buddhist Sculptures

This exhibition showcases Buddhist sculptures created by the Kyoto studio led by Master Buddhist Sculptor Akei Matsumoto and his successor, Akan Matsumoto, who carries on the master's artistic tradition.
Master Akei continues to carve Buddhist statues every day in Ōharano, Kyoto, dedicating himself to creating works that serve as a source of hope and spiritual comfort for people living through the challenges of modern life.
In 2024, he further expanded his achievements by creating and enshrining a statue of Tokugawa Ieyasu and its accompanying shrine cabinet for the 850th Memorial Ceremony of Zojoji Temple, one of Japan's principal Jōdo sect temples.
This exhibition brings together an exceptional collection of exquisitely crafted Buddhist sculptures by the Akei school. We warmly invite you to take this opportunity to appreciate these remarkable works.

本次展览由京都大佛师松本明庆及其继承衣钵的第二代明观先生率领的工房共同举办，展出精美的佛像雕刻作品。
明庆先生现于京都大原野每日潜心雕刻佛像，希望通过自己的作品，为生活在充满艰难与挑战的现代社会中的人们带来希望与心灵的光明。
2024年，他还为净土宗大本山增上寺开宗850周年纪念法会创作并安置了德川家康像及佛龛，持续活跃于日本佛教艺术界。
