Kenrokuen (兼六園) in Kanazawa is known as one of Japan's "three most beautiful landscape gardens" along with Mito's Kairakuen and Okayama's Korakuen. The spacious grounds used to be the outer garden of Kanazawa Castle and visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the garden with the changing seasons. The Tadami Line (只見線, Tadami-sen) is a railway line in Japan operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East). It connects Aizu-Wakamatsu Station in Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima with Koide Station in Uonuma, Niigata and is known for its scenic views. Some of the top spots along the line are tsurugajo castle, enzoji temple, and the tadami river bridge.

Jigokudani Monkey Park is a park inhabited by macaques monkeys also known as snow monkeys. Here, you can watch monkeys bathing in the hot springs during Winter, which is when this park is most famous.
The park has one man-made pool, located a few minutes from the park enterance, where the monkeys gather. Accostumed to humans, the monkeys can be observed from up close and ignore the watching guests. There's a small information center in the park to teach visitors about the monkey troop and the alpha male system. There is also a live camera next to the pool that is accessible online.

The Sapporo Snow Festival is an annual festival held over seven days in February in Sapporo City Hokkaido.
There are three main sights and over 7 million people visit this festival. There are hundreds of snow statues and ice sculptures situated around these three sights. 14 teams from around the world every year compete against each other to win the snow statue competition. The subject of the statues vary and are usually based on some event or something of importance that happened the year before. Past giant sculptures have included Star Wars, Shingeki no Kyojin and famous buildings worldwide. It's so popular that the Vocaloid Miku has a snow Miku version released every year. Fans vote on which outfit they want her to wear, and the winning Miku is made into a statue and other various goods are sold with that design. #日本 #北海道 #札幌＃雪祭り #旅 #旅行

Tateyama Muroda Plain (not too far from Shirakawago), receives some of the heaviest snowfall in the world. In this area is a road called the Alpine Route. To open the Alpine Route every Spring, they need to shovel the heavy snow. A 500 meter long snow wall is created on either side of the route and can reach up to 20 meters in height (comparable to a seven story building). One side of the road is designated to pedestrians, allowing you to walk between the walls of snow and enjoy them. Even in late June the walls can be up to 10 meters in height still.

Located in Gifu, Shirakawago was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. It is famous for its traditional gassho-zukuri farmhouses, a few which are over 250 years old.
Gassho-zukuri means "constructed like hands in prayer" as the steep thatched roofs resemble the hands of Buddhist monks in prayer.
This style of roof was designed to withstand the large amounts of heavy snow which fall in winter in this area. The roofs are made without nails and is made so that if there is too much snow, it slides off.
Due to this, Shirakawago is a very famous sightseeing spot in winter, and if you're lucky to find an opening, you can stay overnight in one of the few houses that have been turned into a bnb.

Mt. Zao is a 1,841 meter tall active volcano that straddles Miyagi and Yamagata prefecture. In the middle of it's summit lies a stunning crater. If you visit on a clear day you can have a panoramic view over the crater from the lookout at Kattadake Peak.
For those who just want to view the crater it is a short walk from the parking lot. For those that want to hike, you can tackle one of the hiking trails from Okama to Zao hot springs on the Yamagata side.

Goshogake-Tamagawa Onsen trail is situated in Akita in the Towada-Hachimantai National Park.
This course combines driving and walking between four short trails. Each trail takes between 30-50 minutes and allows you to observe mud volcanos, hot springs and other volcanic phenomenon. If you want to spend the night , along with hotels that have their own onsens, you can camp in various spots throughout the park. On clear days you can catch a view of Mt. Kamikochi is one of Kantos most famous spots for looking at the Autumn leaves. It's located in Nagano prefecture, and about a 3.5 hour drive from Tokyo, or a bit quicker train ride.

While hiking you can see a couple of different lakes, a Japanese marsh, a famous bridge, and a temple.

Many people do Kamikochi as just a day hike to see the leaves, but it's a good starting point of you want to climb one of the Japanese Alps. This can be broke down in a 2 or 3 day trip.
