This vintage furisode kimono was the starting point.
Its flowing design—filled with cherry blossoms, stylized rivers, and golden waves —was created using Yūzen-zome, a traditional hand-dyeing technique from Kyoto. Each element is carefully outlined with rice paste, then hand-painted with precision, like silk poetry.
The elegance of this kimono sparked the creation of my Moon Rabbit t-shirt design.
The rabbit and the moon are deeply rooted in Japanese folklore : in Japan, people say you don’t see a man on the moon, but a rabbit pounding mochi. This gentle, celestial animal became the heart of the design.
To express the harmony between tradition and modernity, night and day, shadow and light, I chose a yin-yang composition — a black and white bicolor t-shirt.
It’s a soft blend of contrasts, just like the old meets new in this reinterpretation of a kimono motif.
