The client described their entrance with a series of thoughtful keywords:
a pale hinoki wood floor,
deep dove-grey walls,
a cedar ceiling, an earthen tataki floor finished by a plaster artisan,
and softly subdued lighting.
As the renovation progressed, the hinoki flooring turned out lighter than expected.
To gently connect the contrast between the pale floor and the dark walls, the client shared with us, “MUNI was the only thing that came to mind.”
Although the sisters initially considered a deep indigo rug to match their indigo-dyed noren, our exchange of ideas led to a different choice: a ruyi-motif carpet with delicate pale blue lines—perfectly complementing their refined presence and harmonizing beautifully with the dark grey walls.
When the completed entrance was revealed on New Year’s Day, the photographs showed a serene space that exceeded all expectations. The harmony of materials feels both calm and refined, and within it, the MUNI carpet—bearing a motif symbolizing “All Things as They Should Be”—adds a quiet yet decisive accent.

「かなり白めのひのきの床。
濃いダブグレイの壁。
杉材の天井。
たたきは左官屋さんに塗ってもらう予定。
ほの暗い照明のお玄関」
という、お客様からのキーワード。
リノベーション中のお玄関のひのきの床が当初想定なさっていたよりも白く仕上がったそうで、濃い色の壁とのコントラストを繋ぐ役割として、「MUNIしか思い浮かばなかった」と嬉しいお言葉。
「藍染めののれん」に合わせて深い藍のMUNIを候補にされていたご姉妹でしたが、
お客様から頂いたキーワードから、まだ完成していないお玄関の様子を想像してキャッチボールさせて頂きつつ、ご姉妹の洗練された佇まいにぴったりで、濃いグレイの壁との相性の良い淡い水色のラインが利いた如意文の一枚に絞られました。
リノベーションが完成したと、元旦のめでたき日にお送りくださったお写真には、
想像していたとおりの、しかしながら想像をはるかにしのぐ、静謐な空間が映し出されていました。
ひとつひとつのパーツの素材が奏でるハーモニーが目に心地よく、ひのきの芳しい香りが立ってくるような清らかなお玄関に、“萬事如意” を願うモチーフのMUNIのカーペットが空間を引き立てつつ、きりりとスパイスを添えています。
