Have you ever wondered why a fabric store is called “Nomura Tailor”? 🧵
Our story began long before Nomura Tailor was officially established in Kyoto in 1952. Before World War II, our business supplied fabrics to men’s tailors — which is where the name “Tailor” comes from.
After the war, we opened a retail store on Shijo Street, where our main store still stands today, and began selling fabrics for women’s clothing.
At a time when making your own clothes was part of everyday life, fabric was at the heart of what we did. And even as ready-to-wear fashion became the norm, we continued to believe in the possibilities of fabric and making things by hand.
Today, our stores offer fabrics for clothing, accessories, interiors, crafts, and many other creative projects.
Times have changed, but one thing hasn’t: our hope to bring a little more joy to everyday life through the pleasure of making something with your own hands ✨
