ものづくりを通して、こうして国を越えて交流が生まれることを嬉しく思います。

Our 97th guests were a newlywed couple from Belgium, now living in Switzerland.
They are traveling through Japan for their honeymoon, visiting Osaka, Hakone, and Kyoto.
They also shared some wonderful recommendations for artists and other creative people with us.
Even when making cups in the same shape, each one develops its own character depending on the type of hammer used and how it is handled. It’s always fascinating to see how each person’s individuality appears in the surface of the pewter.
I hope these cups will become a special reminder of their honeymoon in Japan and the wonderful memories they made here.

Our 96th guest was visiting from Colorado.
He is taking his time traveling for about two months, visiting Okinawa → Kyoto → Nara → Nagoya → Seoul → Vietnam.
We had lots of interesting conversations, and he told me about popular songs and movies from the 1980s, as well as business and many other topics.
I learned a lot from him and really enjoyed our conversation!
I hope he has a wonderful time for the rest of his journey.

Our 95th guests were a couple visiting from Zurich, Switzerland.

During their trip to Japan, they are planning to visit many different places: Tokyo → Nikko → Yokohama → Hakone → Nagoya → Kyoto → Nara → Himeji → Hiroshima → Osaka.

They told me that they don’t really like alcohol, but since it was a special opportunity, they decided to give it a try and had a little sake from the pewter sake cups they made themselves.

Whether they liked the sake or not, I’m glad they seemed to enjoy the workshop!

I hope their time at SALUK will become one of the special memories of their trip to Japan.

Our 94th guests were a couple visiting from Hong Kong.

They celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary just three days before joining my workshop, and they chose to celebrate their tin anniversary by taking part in the SALUK workshop.

They also introduced me to some of their favorite Hong Kong foods, including Cantonese dim sum, fish balls, and Cha chaan teng. I’d love to try them all!

They also have two adorable cats who bring them joy every day. I’m so jealous! 🐈🐈

We are almost the same age, and we have both been married for 10 years, so I felt a special sense of connection with them.

I hope you continue to share many wonderful moments together for years to come.

Congratulations on your 10th anniversary!

この3日前にご結婚10周年を迎えられたそうで、錫婚式の記念にワークショップに参加してくださいました。

広東飲茶、魚団子、茶餐廳（チャーチャンティン）など、香港おすすめグルメを教えていただきました。
とてもかわいい猫ちゃんを2匹買っていて、毎日癒されてそうで羨ましいです。
私とほぼ同じ年で結婚もしてからお互い10年ということからとても親しみを感じました。これからも末長くお幸せに！

Our 93rd guests were a mother and son visiting from Perth, Australia. 🇦🇺
They had traveled through Fukuoka → Kumamoto → Beppu → Matsuyama → Kochi → Takamatsu → Osaka → Kyoto, following a somewhat unusual route through western Japan.
Besides making their own sake cups at SALUK, they had also experienced various Japanese crafts, including Seki cutlery, sashiko embroidery, and making bamboo lamps.
I thought it was wonderful to see them surrounded by all the things they had made during their journey.
The son has a younger brother, but unfortunately, he couldn’t join the trip this time because of work.
So the mother made an extra sake cup for her other son.
A mother making a sake cup for her son who couldn’t come along, while traveling all the way from Australia…
A mother’s love really is something special!

福岡→熊本→別府→松山→高知→高松→大阪→京都と旅をされてきたそうで、日本の西側を中心に巡る、少し珍しいルートでした。
ぐい呑み作りだけでなく、関刃物、刺し子、竹のライト作りなど、さまざまな日本のクラフトも体験されているそうです。
これまでに自分たちで作ったものに囲まれながら旅をされている姿が、とても素敵だなと思いました。
息子さんには弟さんがいて、今回はお仕事のため一緒に旅行することができなかったそうです。
そこでお母様は、弟さんのためにもぐい呑みをひとつ作られました。
遠く離れた息子さんのために、旅先でぐい呑みを作るお母様。
母の愛は、やっぱりすごいなと思いました！

Our 92nd guest was visiting from England. 🇬🇧
His wife is an artist who works with dyeing techniques using traditional stencils, and he makes frames to display her artwork.
They also stopped by Ise during their trip to learn more about traditional stenciling.
I didn’t know that Ise was well known for its traditional stencil-making, so I learned something new too! I’m always happy to discover more about Japanese crafts through conversations with our guests.
They also visited a traditional crafts museum in Kyoto and showed a great interest in Japanese craftsmanship, which made me very happy.

彼の奥様は、型紙などを使った染色を手がけるアーティストで、彼は奥様のために作品を飾るフレームを作ったりしているそうです。
今回はお二人で、型紙について学ぶために伊勢にも立ち寄られたとのこと。
私自身、伊勢が型紙で有名だということを知らなかったので、とても勉強になりました。お客様との会話を通して、私も日本の工芸について新しいことを知ることができて嬉しいです。
京都でも伝統工芸館を訪れるなど、日本の工芸にとても興味を持ってくださっていて、私も嬉しく思いました。

Our 91st guests were a father and daughter visiting from North Carolina! 🇺🇸
And what a surprise — his daughter is a Guinness World Records holder!
It was my first time meeting someone who holds a Guinness World Record, so I was absolutely thrilled!
Her father was such a fun and playful person. He made us laugh with lots of jokes throughout the experience. 😊
They were also traveling with some little kokeshi dolls that her mother had received as gifts from her pen pals when she was a child.
The kokeshi dolls seemed to be having a wonderful time in Japan too, getting to travel around and experience all kinds of new things! 🇯🇵✨
I’m so happy that their time at SALUK could become part of their special journey.

そして、お二人は、お母様が幼い頃にペンパル（文通友達）からプレゼントされたこけしちゃんたちと一緒に旅をされていました。
こけしちゃんたちも一緒に日本旅行を楽しみ、いろいろな経験ができて、とっても嬉しそうでした🇯🇵✨

Our 90th guests were a couple from Calgary, Canada.
The husband is a chef, and his wife previously worked at a restaurant and now supports his work. Their daughter is also active as a pastry chef. I felt that their passion for food and craftsmanship has been passed down through their family.
During the workshop, they both focused on creating their pieces and made beautiful pewter sake cups.
They told me that if they are able to visit Japan again next year, they would like to make one as a gift for a friend. I was truly happy to hear those words.
They enjoyed not only cities such as Tokyo, Kyoto, and Fukuoka, but also many local areas including Kashikojima in Mie Prefecture, Fukui, Okayama, and Nagasaki. Seeing how much they embraced different parts of Japan made me very happy.

90番目のゲストは、カナダ・カルガリーからお越しのご夫妻。
ご主人はシェフとしてご活躍されており、奥様も以前レストランで働かれていた経験があり、現在はご主人のお仕事を支えていらっしゃるそうです。さらに娘さんもパティスリーシェフとしてご活躍されているとのこと。きっとご家族の中で、料理への情熱が受け継がれているのだろうと感じました。
ワークショップでは、お互いに集中しながら、とても素敵な錫のぐい呑みを制作してくださいました。
「もし来年また日本に来ることができたら、今度は友人のために作りたい」と言ってくださり、その言葉がとても嬉しかったです。
東京や京都、福岡といった都市だけでなく、賢島（三重）、福井、岡山、長崎など日本各地も楽しまれているご様子で、日本を深く楽しんでくださっていることが伝わり、嬉しく思いました。
