そして、お顔もきれいになったので、
最近、古いポラロイドカメラをゲットしました 📸

なんだか急に、
アナログな写真に残したくなったんですよね。
ポラロイドの感じが、顔の家が生まれた時代にもなんだかしっくりきます。

とはいえ、まだ足場があるので、
今はちょっと歯科矯正中みたいな姿ですが🦷😬

昔の外壁塗装工事の様子も、
義父がちゃんと写真に残していました。

そんなふうに、
日々少しずつ移ろっていく顔の家の姿を、
これから私も残していこうと思います。

Tomorrow, Saturday the 12th, we’re planning to open as usual — but due to a little scheduling mix-up with my husband, our 4-year-old daughter will be helping out at the shop. 👧

If our little shop girl runs out of patience, we may have to close a little early… 🙏

I suddenly felt like capturing the house on film.

It somehow feels just right for FACE HOUSE and its era.

The scaffolding is still up, though, so right now it looks a bit like it’s wearing braces. 🦷😬

My father-in-law also photographed the house during past exterior renovations.

So I’d like to do the same — slowly documenting the little changes in FACE HOUSE over time. 🏠

約1ヶ月ぶりに、
FACE HOUSE再スタートしていますよ〜👄✨

久しぶりのOPENに向けて、
店内もあれこれ整えました。

そして、もはや癖のように
休み明けにはディスプレイを変えたくなる店主。
今回もまあまあ変わっておりますので、
ぜひ見てやってください🔍

オンラインショップもリニューアル中ですが、
こちらは地道にコツコツ進行中……。
お待ちいただいている方、本当にごめんなさい🙇‍♀️
たぶんある日突然、

となるので、気長にお待ちくださいませ。

工事を請け負ってしてくださっている担当さんから

We’ve been getting the shop ready — and of course, I couldn’t resist changing up the displays again. 🔍

先日、グランドオープンに先がけて、
京都建築センターの内覧会へ行ってきました✑
⁡
場所は、安藤忠雄さん設計の「TIME’S」。
1984年竣工の、京都を代表する建築のひとつです。
⁡
顔の家が生まれたのは、その10年前の1974年。
表現はまったく違うけれど、
どちらも京都の街なかで、それぞれの方法で
建築と人、街との関係をつくってきた建物なのかな
と思います。
⁡
そんなTIME’Sが、
建築を知り、楽しみ、次の場所へとつないでいく
「京都建築センター」として再スタート。
⁡
建築の情報を集めたり、本を読んだり、
ここを起点に京都の建築を巡ったり。
こういう場所、京都には意外と今までなかったなと。
建築好きの方はもちろん、
京都観光の途中にふらっと立ち寄るのにもよさそう。
TIME’Sの空間で本を眺めているだけでも、
気持ちのいい時間が過ごせそうです。

そして嬉しいことに、
ショップではFACE HOUSEのオリジナルトートも
お取り扱いいただいています！！🙌✨
ほかのお店で販売していただくのは今回が初めて。
京都の名建築トートたちにまじって並んでいる姿に、
ちょっと不思議で、ちょっとドキドキ♡

京都や建築を切り口にした個性的なものがいろいろ。
これからここでどんな企画や出会いが生まれていくのか、
今後の展開も楽しみです！

Before its grand opening, we had the chance to visit the new Kyoto Architecture Center at TIME’S, designed by Tadao Ando.
⁡
TIME’S was completed in 1984 — exactly 10 years after FACE HOUSE was built in 1974.
⁡
Their expressions are completely different, but both have created their own relationship between architecture, people, and the city of Kyoto.
⁡
Now TIME’S has started a new chapter as the Kyoto Architecture Center — a place to discover architecture, browse books, gather information, and use as a starting point for exploring the city.
⁡
It feels like the kind of place Kyoto surprisingly didn’t have before.
Perfect for architecture lovers, but also easy to drop by while sightseeing.
Even just spending some time reading inside TIME’S feels worthwhile.

⁡
And we’re very happy that our original FACE HOUSE tote bags are now available in the shop! 🙌✨
This is actually the first time our products have been sold outside FACE HOUSE, so seeing them there felt a little surreal — and exciting.

You’ll also find a small but very distinctive selection of architecture-related books and goods.
⁡
We’re looking forward to seeing how this place grows and what kinds of new connections and projects will come from it.

まだ防塵の黒幕にすっぽり隠れておりますが、
お肌のファンデーションはきれいに塗り替わりました✨
色は以前とほぼ同じですが、ほんの少し明るくなって、
ちょっぴり若返りました♡💆

ちなみに、来週後半くらいには、
黒幕だけ先に外してもらえるかも……とのこと。
そうなれば、足場に囲まれた顔全体が見られる、
今だけの姿がお目見えするかもしれません👀

It feels a little nerve-racking to be back after such a long break, but we’re really looking forward to welcoming you all again!

The exterior renovation of FACE HOUSE is also entering its final stage. 🚧

It’s still completely hidden behind the black construction screen, but its fresh new “foundation” is all done! ✨
The color is almost the same as before, just a tiny bit brighter — so FACE HOUSE looks a little younger now. ♡ 💆

And apparently, the black screen might come down sometime late next week.
If so, you may get a rare glimpse of the whole face still surrounded by scaffolding 👀

The inside of the nose is sparkling clean too! 👃✨
Although, thanks to all the recent rain, it currently has a bit of a runny nose. 😂

The renovation is still ongoing, so we apologize for any inconvenience in the meantime.

今日の工程は、外壁の下塗りと補修。
⁡
暑い中、一つひとつ丁寧に
手塗りで作業してくださっています。
⁡

一層目の下地は、真っ白。
というわけで今日の顔の家は、
歌舞伎役者か舞妓さんのような「白粉フェイス」です🤍
⁡
そして実は今回の工事、周辺への騒音にも配慮して、
コンプレッサーを使わず、なんと全工程が手塗り！✋
⁡
今の時代に、まさかの全手塗り。
この暑さの中、本当に職人さんには頭が上がりません👷‍♂️🙏
⁡
細かなパーツから大きな壁面まで、少しずつ丁寧に。
フロアのつなぎ目部分も、古いものを取り除き、
耐震性のあるコーキング材に入れ直してもらっています。
⁡
こうして間近で見ていると、
新しく建てるのもすごいけれど、古い建物を直しながら残していくのも、本当に大変な仕事なんだなぁと改めて実感。

少しずつ、でも着実に。
日々変化していく顔の家を見るのが、
めちゃ楽しい。

Today’s work: priming and repairs on the exterior walls.
⁡
Despite the heat, everything is being carefully painted by hand, one section at a time.
⁡
The first coat of primer is pure white.
So for today, Face House has a white-painted face—almost like a Kabuki actor or a maiko. 🤍
⁡
And here’s something we didn’t know until this project began: to keep noise to a minimum for the neighborhood, no compressors are being used.
⁡
That means the entire exterior is being painted by hand!✋
⁡
It’s pretty amazing to see this kind of work today.
We have so much respect for the craftspeople working out there in this heat. 👷‍♂️🙏

From the smallest details to the large wall surfaces, everything is being carefully worked on.
The old sealant between the different floor sections is also being removed and replaced with a more earthquake-resistant material.

Watching the work up close has made us realize again:
building something new is incredible, of course, but repairing and preserving an old building for the future takes an incredible amount of work too.

Little by little, but surely.
It’s so much fun watching Face House change day by day.

さて、今回の外壁塗装工事。
「顔の家」の顔を洗って、
傷んだところを直して、また色を塗る。
そんな作業を間近で見られるのがなんだか面白くて、
せっかくなら、この貴重な機会を映像に残しておきたいと思いました。

そこで、映像アーティスト・百瀬里菜さんにご協力いただき、工事と並行して撮影もスタートしています🎬

映像では「顔の家」自身が語り手となって、
誕生から今、そしてこれからを辿ります。
工事の様子だけでなく、
普段は見えない「顔の内側」の風景も。

この家を受け継ぎ、これからも大切に残していきたい。
そんな私たちの気持ちも、
一緒に記録できたらと思っています。

Yesterday started with rumbling thunder, followed by a sun shower. 🌦️
The raindrops caught the evening light and sparkled like snow. It was beautiful.

We even captured a little of it from inside the “nose.” 🎥👃

Now, about the exterior renovation.
Washing FACE HOUSE’s face, repairing the damaged areas, and giving it a fresh coat of paint.

We thought it would be fascinating to watch this whole process up close—and since it’s such a rare opportunity, we wanted to capture it on film.

So, with the help of video artist Rina Momose, filming has already begun alongside the renovation work. 🎬

The film will be narrated by FACE HOUSE itself, tracing its story from its birth to the present, and into the future.

We’ll be documenting not only the renovation, but also some rarely seen views from “inside the face.”
We hope the film will also capture how we feel about inheriting this house and caring for it so it can continue into the future.
