nostos books（古書ノストス） 世田谷区祖師ヶ谷大蔵に店舗をかまえる古本屋。デザイン・アート・カルチャーを中心に取り扱います。

店名の「ノストス」とはギリシャ語で「帰郷」を意味する単語であり、「ノスタルジア」の語源にもなりました。その名が示すように、懐かしいようでいて今なお鮮烈な印象を残す、60年代～80年代の出版物を中心にピックアップしております。また、電子書籍化が活発化している今日だからこそ、プロダクトとしての本の希少価値を重視し個性的な造本・装幀の本を積極的に紹介いたします。

「哲人建築家」「異端の作家」と称される建築家・白井晟一による限定版作品集。1935年から1974年までに手がけた代表的建築を、全図版貼込という手作業による精緻な造本で収録している。河村邸、原爆堂計画、親和銀行本店、虚白庵など主要18作品をカラー・モノクロ写真で紹介し、その空間構成や素材の表現を通して、白井建築の精神性を浮かび上がらせる。さらに、自筆原稿「侍庵の二畳」「縄文的なるもの」など5篇に加え、小能林宏城、横山正、宮内康、長谷川堯による論考を収録。詩的かつ哲学的な建築思想を多角的に探求する構成となっている。限定750部発行。

A limited-edition monograph on Japanese architect Seiichi Shirai, often described as a “philosopher-architect” and an “iconoclast.” Spanning works from 1935 to 1974, the volume features 18 major projects—including Kawamura Residence, Genbaku-do Project, Shinwa Bank Headquarters, and Kyohaku-an—with hand-mounted color and black-and-white plates. The book also includes five of Shirai’s own writings, such as Two Tatami in Samurai-an and The Jōmonic, along with essays by Hiroki Konobayashi, Tadashi Yokoyama, Yasushi Miyauchi, and Takashi Hasegawa. Through meticulous documentation and philosophical reflection, the publication offers a profound exploration of Shirai’s architectural vision and the poetic rigor of his thought. 詩人・北園克衛とタイポグラファー・清原悦志を特集した号。戦前から戦後にかけて日本のモダニズムを牽引した二人の活動を、豊富な図版と論考を通して再検証している。特集「清原悦志の理」では、ブックデザイン、企業パンフレット、実験的なレイアウト作品をラフスケッチやコメントとともに紹介し、その造形思考とタイポグラフィの理念を探る。「北園克衛の詩と造型」では、言葉と形、意味と視覚のあいだに生まれる構造を分析し、印刷物の持つ触感的な魅力を再考。詩とデザイン、文学と造形の交錯を通して、戦後日本の視覚文化における新たな文脈を提示する一冊。

The November 2011 issue of Idea magazine (No.364) focuses on two pioneers of Japanese modernism—poet Katsue Kitasono and typographer Etsushi Kiyohara. Through extensive visuals and critical essays, the issue revisits their contributions to postwar visual culture. The feature “The Logic of Etsushi Kiyohara” explores his book designs, corporate publications, and experimental layouts, revealing the geometric and conceptual principles that shaped his approach to typography. In “The Poetry and Form of Katsue Kitasono,” the relationship between word and image, meaning and structure, is examined as an aesthetic system that blurs boundaries between literature and design. 11月15日（土）〜12月1日（月）の期間、「原初的印象・不確かさをそのままにする」を主題に作品制作、リサーチ、資料蒐集を行う2足 による個展「therium information」を開催します。

2足が新たに取り組む、複数種の哺乳類の毛を混ぜ合わせた獣毛フェルトのオブジェクトシリーズと、1歳から90歳までの人々にご協力いただき制作したスクラップブックを中心に展開します。

実際にいる動物をアウトフォーカスで撮影し、そこに写る動物の輪郭を抽出してフェルトへと置き換えるオブジェクトシリーズ。そして、新たな試みとして制作されたスクラップブックは、人々に一枚の写真を手渡し、自由にコラージュや記述を委ねたものを一冊にまとめた作品です。どちらも、作家の内側に閉じた表現ではなく、解釈をひらいていくための装置のような魅力があります。

他者の手や視点を通してどのように変化していくのか。そこにこそ、2足の作品の核があるように思います。作家の解釈を提示するのではなく、その解釈の余地を差し出すようなあり方は、とても自由で、古物や古書が持つ無限の可能性とも深く響き合っています。
