Few songs define the sound of the '90s quite like Waterfalls. Released in 1995, it became TLC's signature hit with its unforgettable melody and socially conscious lyrics, helping make CrazySexyCool one of the best-selling R&B albums of all time.

And what better way to experience it than on a Technics deck? For decades, Technics turntables have been a favorite among audiophiles, DJs, and vinyl collectors alike thanks to their reliability and beautifully engineered playback.

The Wondermega is one of those consoles that instantly makes retro hardware collectors double-take.

This Victor Wondermega (RG-M1) that one of our customers just picked up was one of the most ambitious all-in-one gaming systems of the early 1990s. Released in Japan by Victor, it combined a Sega Mega Drive and Mega-CD into a single premium unit years before Sega released its own integrated versions. It even included upgraded stereo speakers, dual headphone jacks, microphone inputs, MIDI compatibility, and a sleek industrial design that still looks futuristic today.

Part of what makes this console so interesting is the company behind it. Victor was the Japanese branding of the Victor Talking Machine Company, better known internationally as His Master's Voice (HMV) and later JVC. While the branding changed in Japan, Victor continued using the iconic "His Master's Voice" dog-and-gramophone logo, making it a fascinating piece of audio and gaming history.

The Wondermega wasn't cheap when it launched, which means relatively few were sold compared to a standard Mega Drive. That exclusivity, combined with its premium features and unmistakable design, has made it one of the most desirable Sega-compatible consoles for collectors today.

It's a brilliant reminder that some of Japan's most exciting gaming hardware came from companies willing to experiment, and the Wondermega is still one of the coolest examples of that philosophy.

Things are getting out of hand... get it? 😅

One of our customers recently picked up this Tomura Shigaraki Nendoroid from My Hero Academia, and it's a perfect example of why we love Nendoroids so much. Despite their small size, they absolutely overflow with personality. Swappable faces, expressive poses, and clever accessories let you recreate iconic scenes or invent entirely new ones, making them feel far more alive than your average figure.

Shigaraki is an especially fun choice. His unsettling design, complete with the iconic hand covering his face, translates brilliantly into Nendoroid form. Somehow, even in chibi proportions, he still manages to look just as chaotic as ever.

One of our customers picked up a sealed Pokémon TCG World Championships Battle Starter Deck: Torterra, a release that celebrates one of the biggest events in competitive Pokémon history.

This special deck was released in Japan to commemorate the 2009 Pokémon World Championships, giving fans a chance to own a ready-to-play deck themed around Torterra while celebrating the global tournament. Unlike standard expansion sets, these commemorative products were printed for a specific occasion, making them a unique snapshot of the Pokémon TCG's competitive scene.

Collectors love releases like this because they blend tournament history with exclusive packaging. Sealed World Championships products weren't made to stay on store shelves forever, so finding one still unopened years later is becoming increasingly difficult.

🏔️ Happy Mountain Day! 🇯🇵

August 11th marks Mountain Day (山の日), one of Japan's national holidays and part of the three-day Obon holiday period for many people. It was introduced in 2016 to encourage people to appreciate Japan's mountains and the many blessings they provide, from fresh water and beautiful landscapes to centuries of culture and tradition.

With around 70% of Japan covered by mountains, it's no surprise they've become such an important part of daily life and national identity. Iconic peaks like Mount Fuji have inspired artists, pilgrims, and adventurers for generations.

Mountain Day is often celebrated by:
🏔️ Hiking or climbing local mountains
🌲 Spending time in nature with family and friends
⛩️ Visiting mountain shrines and scenic viewpoints
🍱 Enjoying picnics, camping, or simply escaping the city for some fresh air

As Mountain Day also falls during the Obon season, many people use the long holiday to travel back to their hometowns, reconnect with family, and enjoy Japan's incredible natural scenery.

One of our customers found one of the strangest pieces of Game Boy software we've ever come across... and we absolutely love it.

Meet Smartcom, an electronic organizer for the Game Boy. Instead of playing games, this cartridge transformed Nintendo's handheld into a digital planner complete with a calendar, address book, calculator, alarm clock, scheduler, and even a TV remote function when used with the Game Boy Color. The fact that someone looked at a Game Boy and thought, "You know what this needs? To replace my PDA." is still such a crazy idea.

What's even more unusual is its origin. While the Game Boy library is overwhelmingly Japanese and American, Smartcom is one of the rare releases that was actually developed in England. It was created by Applied Microsystems Ltd. (AML), with Japanese publisher Karat bringing it to market. It's a fascinating example of international collaboration during the handheld's golden years.

These oddball utilities are some of our favorite things to see come through Japan. They remind us that not every cartridge had to be an action game or RPG. Sometimes it was just an incredibly ambitious attempt to turn a handheld console into an everyday productivity device.

We honestly wish there was more software like this. The gaming world could always use a few more wonderfully niche ideas that make you stop and think, "Wait... they actually made that?"

One of our customers has this wonderfully weird The Scream action figure by Figma on the way, and honestly... it's proof that literally anything can become an action figure if it's iconic enough. 😄

Part of Figma's Table Museum series, this figure transforms Edvard Munch's legendary 1893 painting The Scream into a fully poseable collectible. The series takes famous works of art and reimagines them as articulated figures, letting collectors recreate the original masterpiece... or make them do completely ridiculous things instead.

Even people who've never stepped foot in an art gallery know this anxious little guy. Whether you display it faithfully against a painted backdrop or have it dramatically screaming next to your anime figures, it somehow works.

It's one of those collectibles that appeals to just about everyone, from art lovers to figure collectors to anyone who appreciates a good conversation starter.
