The other day, while talking with my grandfather, Takaomi Izawa, he told me that he feels his artwork has been getting better and better lately. He said his work has become more detailed than before, and he’s working more efficiently. However, he also mentioned that he’s starting to feel his age—that he’s getting older and older, his body aches, and he can’t do things the way he used to. I spend time with my grandfather in his studio, where I’m learning a lot about his principles of life and the wisdom he has gained over his 84 years. Sometimes, though, there are things I don’t immediately understand in the moment. But as years—or even decades—pass, what he has taught me gradually begins to make sense.

"Oshigata" - 押し型 （Press Molding）

We use a mold for DOGU, creating the overall shape of DOGU. Also known as a technique called "Oshigata". A technique in which clay is pressed into the interior or recesses of a mold to create parts, reliefs, small plates, and other items.
