A Kenyan lady has been left in shock after discovering more than 150,000 shillings in old Kshs 1,000 notes hidden inside her late mother’s wardrobe.
Her mother passed away 14 years ago, and the family says they had always avoided entering her bedroom. Recently, when they finally gathered the courage to open it, they came across the bundle of money neatly kept in an old handbag.
Unfortunately, these are the old Kenyan notes that were phased out years ago meaning they can no longer be used in shops, exchanged at the bank, or even converted into new notes. To her, what looked like a life-changing fortune is now just worthless paper.
She is now wondering what to do next, and whether there is any hope of getting value from it.
