The Great Migration is known for half a million wildebeest.
But the forgotten migration belongs to the striped ones.
When zebra herds fill the Mara, the plains become a maze of lines — you can’t tell where one stripe ends and another begins.
As a wildlife vet, the hardest cases I’ve faced were zebra snare injuries. Finding one injured zebra in a sea of stripes is like Where’s Waldo — except the stakes are life and death.

This zebra cushion is a quiet tribute to them. 🦓

I drove the main highway connecting the coast to Nairobi —a thin ribbon of tarmac slicing the vast Tsavo ecosystem into East and West.

Along the road, a few weathered signs read “Be aware of elephants.”This time, they felt less like warnings and more like introductions.

Ten Tsavo red elephants appeared, all bulls — old souls of the savanna.　Most were around forty years old; one carried the weight and presence of nearly fifty.

Dust-stained and quiet, they stood close to the road,ancient witnesses to a landscape that remembers them better than it remembers

For nearly two decades, I witnessed both the harsh realities of wildlife – poaching, injuries, loss – and the incredible beauty and resilience of Africa’s savannah. What kept me going was that strength, that spirit, and the endless inspiration it gave me.
