The moment I saw the word “ỌBA,” my brain immediately went:

“OBA FEMI?!” 😭😂💀

And yes… I’m talking about Oba Femi, the WWE Superstar. 🤼🏾‍♂️🔥

But that little connection sent me down a completely different rabbit hole. 🕳️📚

Before modern borders, West African kingdoms had their own royal titles, rulers, cultures and political systems. 👑

In Wagadou, the ancient West African state associated with the Ghana Empire, “Ghana” was associated with the ruler/title of the king.

In Yorubaland, the king was known as Ọba — a royal title meaning king/ruler. 👑
