As artists what we do is to give life to that which people call waste. I changed this old denim pants to something amazing I hand painted a Scooby doo artwork on it and the client loved it

From stigma to hope. From punishment to support.
This mural tells the story of many women who use drugs—women who are often judged before they are understood.
The artwork symbolizes a journey from darkness into light, showing that healing begins when we replace stigma with compassion, punishment with support, and exclusion with opportunity.
Every element of this mural carries a message: 🌱 Growth is possible. 🤝 Support saves lives. ❤️ Compassion creates change. ✨ Every woman deserves dignity, respect, and a chance to rebuild.
Art has the power to start conversations that statistics alone cannot. Through this mural, we hope to challenge harmful stereotypes, raise awareness about gender-sensitive harm reduction, and remind our communities that recovery is a journey best walked together.
This mural was made possible through the collaboration of AGYO Organisation, Msingi Asili Creators, Riko Art Organisation, KTYO CBO, and talented community artists who believe that creativity can be a tool for advocacy and social transformation.
Together, we're painting a future where every woman is seen, heard, and supported.

Waste is only waste when we fail to see its potential. 🌱♻️
Last Saturday, Msingi Asili joined hands with Small Axe Initiative for a community cleanup at the park. As we sorted through the waste, we discovered valuable materials hidden in plain sight—old CDs, camera films, flash disks, cards, and paper.
Many of these items would have ended up in a landfill, yet they can be transformed into paper mâché, handmade paper, and meaningful works of art.
The experience reminded us that one of our biggest environmental challenges is not just waste—it's the lack of awareness about what can be reused and recycled. With knowledge and creativity, what we throw away today can become tomorrow's resource.
Let's shift our mindset from "throw it away" to "what can it become?"

Our first-ever Roots & Flames gathering brought together community members, creatives, young people, and changemakers for something simple yet powerful: sharing food, stories, ideas, and hope around a bonfire.
As we rolled chapatis, cooked together, and sat around the flames until sunrise, we had meaningful conversations about civic education, the realities facing Kenya today, and the role each of us can play in shaping the future we want to see.
In a world where division often takes center stage, this gathering reminded us that community is built through presence, dialogue, and shared experiences.
Sometimes change begins with a conversation. Sometimes it begins with a meal. Sometimes it begins around a fire.
This was more than a chapati and bonfire festival—it was a reminder that we are stronger when we come together.
🔥 To many more nights of learning, sharing, and building community.

What happens when creativity meets sustainability? 🌱🎨
As part of the Msingi Asili Creators community, we joined a sack painting and urban gardening activity at Christ Villa Park in Kitu Ward, organized by Lisa and hosted by KTYO.
Together with children, families, and community members, we transformed ordinary sacks into colorful growing spaces while learning an important lesson: food can be grown wherever people are willing to nurture it.
Beyond the painting and planting, the day sparked conversations about self-reliance, environmental stewardship, and the importance of raising a generation that sees itself not only as consumers, but as producers and creators.
Small seeds. Big possibilities.
Thank you to everyone who showed up, learned, painted, planted, and imagined a greener future together. 🌿

From Rome to Nairobi, hip-hop continues to prove that it is more than music — it is culture, identity, fashion, resistance, and storytelling.
Last Saturday, Riko Wendowiitu had the opportunity to showcase our merchandise at the Hip-Hop Cinefest, a collaboration between Kenya and Italy focused on redefining urban landscapes and promoting social transformation through hip-hop culture.
Being part of conversations around creativity, youth culture, African identity, and community reminded us why we create. Every painted piece, every custom design, and every story on fabric is our way of preserving culture while pushing new narratives for the next generation.
Fashion is one of the strongest elements of hip-hop, and through Riko Wendowiitu we continue telling African stories boldly, creatively, and unapologetically.
Big love to everyone who passed by our stand, connected with the art, and supported the vision. This is only the beginning. 🌍🎨🔥
