When I thought about giving tips on this, it sounded ridiculous.
Who doesn’t know how to light a grill/jiko?
Like, seriously? I came to realize that the idea was not ridiculous after all.
It is a serious matter.
It can be a frustrating undertaking and bring your cooking qualities into question by any onlookers!
Today we share tips on how to light your grill/jiko without using a chimney starter or lighter fluids.
It is worthwhile becoming familiar with alternative methods to light your fire without frustration should a chimney starter or lighter fluid not be available as is usually the case for most of us.
A chimney starter and lighter fluid are convenient and work well, but it is not the only way to get your unlit charcoal briquettes lit to get your grill/jiko going!
Don't use synthetic materials such as plastic in lighting as it has harmful effects on the air quality and our health.
Patience is first and foremost the essential key to lighting a charcoal briquette grill/jiko.
WHY ARE MY CHARCOAL BRIQUETTES NOT LIGHTING?
Dry - Ensure that your briquettes are dry, clean, and have not crumbled. If you store it for a long time, it can get moist from humidity.
Ventilation - The grill/jiko vents always need to be open, and the lid of the grill should also be left open while the briquettes are still lighting. Without airflow, the fire will die before they are all lit.
Briquette quality - The quality of the briquette matters. Instead of using cheaper, low-quality briquettes that have a low carbon content, that is hard to light, produce low heat, and don’t last.
Try CHOMA MAKAA BRIQUETTES which are thoughtfully designed for performance with a high density and carbon content that ensure greater efficiency and longer burn time. The density provides high temperatures as well as an even, consistent, and steady heat source to ensure service without replenishment. Our briquettes' hexagonal shape allows free movement of air within your grill/jiko which makes it quick and easy to light.
