Over the years, she has worked with NGOs, consulting firms, and leadership teams to strengthen financial systems, guide donor-funded programs, and build resilient organizations capable of delivering long-term impact.

Her work focuses on helping institutions navigate complexity with clarity, accountability, and purpose; particularly within highly regulated and resource-constrained environments.

Mary holds an MSc in Development Finance from Strathmore University, a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration, and an MBA in Strategic Management. Hellen Mutunga is a pragmatic 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫 and 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭 with over a decade of experience transforming how financial protection reaches everyday Kenyans. As the 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 at Rafiki Microfinance Bank, she is bridging the gap between banking and insurance by embedding simple, affordable coverage into everyday financial touch points - from branch counters to mobile wallets.

Her work spans building distribution networks in underserved counties, training front-line bank staff to sell with empathy rather than pressure, and designing micro-insurance solutions for SMEs and smallholder farmers. At the heart of her work is a simple belief: insurance only works when people understand it and trust that it will support them when it matters most.

Hellen is currently pursuing an MBA in Strategic Management at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). Whitney shared how joining the Bold Moves project initially filled her with anxiety and self-doubt. She questioned whether she could fully express her story and whether her voice would truly be understood. However, after speaking to young women in construction through a mentorship initiative, she found the clarity and confidence she needed to begin writing her chapter.
