I hope the world will hear this small voice — a voice of pain from Cambodia, a country that is being violated by Thailand and yet is being painted as the one who started the war.
1. Thailand has told the world that Cambodia was the one who first launched weapons, even though in truth, it was Thailand who started it. Not only that, Thailand has also distorted Cambodia’s image — both within its own country and on the global stage. This is a deeply wrongful act that has caused great pain to the Cambodian people. We are being violated, and on top of that, we are being slandered — simply because we are a smaller country, with less money and less power in the international arena.
But we believe that truth does not lie in wealth or power — it lies in honesty. When it comes to judging a person’s character, we don’t listen to their words — we look at their actions. The same applies to countries.
Thailand tells the world that it is peaceful and good. But let’s look at Thailand’s actions:
1. Thailand crossed into Cambodia and shot a Cambodian soldier dead.
2. Cambodia called on Thailand to settle the dispute through the ICJ, but Thailand refused.
3. Thailand unilaterally closed the border.
4. Thailand threatened to cut off electricity and internet currently being supplied to Cambodia.
5. Just a few days ago, a Thai civilian attacked Cambodian forces and then fled.
6. Before the fighting started, Thailand expelled the Cambodian ambassador and summoned its own ambassador back to the country.
So I ask: what are these actions? Are these the actions of a good country? Are these the actions of a country that loves peace?
Cambodia is an ancient nation that has endured so much suffering and oppression. All we want is peace. We are a small country with a small population. How could we possibly dare to provoke or invade Thailand — a much larger country with far more people?
This is the painful voice of an ordinary Cambodian — someone with no agenda other than to speak the truth and ask the world to see it for what it is and help us seek justice. Don’t believe my words — go and look at the truth for yourself
