On a hot, dusty afternoon in Siem Reap I stepped into the kind of remorque that tells a story.
His resourcefully built ride was made out of pure love and determination to provide for his family.
Regardless of his struggles, he continues to smile… He continues to welcome and show a kindness that sometimes feels rare in the world today..
We arrive, he turns to me with a big grin. “Good luck for you, sister.” A sentence that echoed throughout the streets when I first arrived… a sentence that quietly opened my mind and heart to a life elsewhere.
I cannot help but smile . . .
This photograph didn’t simply capture a tuk tuk ride in the afternoon sun….
it captured a lesson in humanity.
When I arrived in April 2013 for three days it wasn’t just the soaring heat that struck me it was the warmth of the Khmer people . . . My inspiration for ‘Good Luck For You’
This piece is part of a collaborative exhibition Artists For Humanity opening this evening Raffles Hotel Le Royal 6-8pm . . . Then on to Courtyard by Marriott 26th March @6.30pm and then the grande finale at Rosewood Phnom Penh 2nd April for final exhibit of the works, dinner and an auction!! xx
